How Good Will We Be at Receiver?

Patrick Mahomes.
He's gotta be the best QB since prime Brady. He may even be better.
But he's had a down year with the sheer amount of drops his team has had + no Tyreek Hill.
---
It feels like Clemson has sort of experienced that same phenomenon the last several season. Virtually no production at receiver. We've had flashes but mostly our receiving corps has underperformed.
We can wax and wane about all of the busts (everyone names Collins, Ladson, Randall, EJ Williams, Ajou Ajou, Ngata... like looking at this list is painful) but I'm curious: how good will we be here next year?
Honestly, we could have probably won most of our games this season if we were a truly run-first offense. Mafah is an animal. Shipley... he's an animal too. Aside from the fumbles we had a solid stable of RBs. We saw this come together towards the end of the season as the O found their identity.
But how good will we be at WR next year?
I'm excited for:
-Brown and Williams: our two best receivers; dynamic but smaller dudes -Briningstool: I hope he puts on more weight and develops those hands more. He needs to be more physical -Hanafin/Stellato: juries still out on these guys -Cole Turner: we saw a flash last season, hope he can continue to build -Noble Johnson?
-Wesco/Moore: hyped for these dudes.
What do y'all think?

Dabo told em they had 25 Days to prove they belonged.
Since then, ONLY 1 of the WR's have been "moved on". What 'WE" think really doesn't matter.

Don't forget the new Tight End. Can not think of his name at the moment but his writeup was very good.

They always rave about our tight ends in the off season, but it's been a long time since they have been a dangerous weapon.

If we are good at QB, and we are good at OL, then we will be better at WR. To me, these are the 3 that make or break the season next year because our defense and running game should be solid.

But…… we HAVE to cure the fumbleitis or nothing much will change. Multiple fumbles inside the five and the red zone were absolute killers. We certainly should have beaten Florida State as well as Duke.

Agree, we’ve been better the last 1/3 of the season so I’m hoping most of that is behind us.

Depends on if Dabo gets rid of Grisham after the bowl and the mid years are on campus and hires someone capable of player development at the role. If not, it’s another year of squandering WR talent

When you have receivers with hands of stone and rocks in their shoes even TL is going to look bad. WR can’t block, can’t get open, and can’t catch consistently, this is all back to poor fundamentals and poor coaching on Grisham’s part

with a great/elite QB like Trevor. There’s not a great team out there without great QB play.
Yet again, they are absolutely getting open. We need better play from the most important position on the field, period. It all starts there.

Without being able to know what the freshman will bring, I would think you have to be extremely optimistic to think they will be good at WR. There is a 3 year sample size to look at showing very little positive results from WR. That’s why my personal opinion is they should pay for a guy that is a proven commodity on the outside just in case.

I agree with everything on the list except Randall. To me, he’s waiting to explode. If we can keep our stable we have now healthy, adding the new recruits will be fun. I can see Wesco being a factor from day one, and maybe starting if some of the upperclassmen don’t step up their game. I also think that our offensive philosophy has to change to routes that create separation. More posts in the deep middle of the field and more 50/50 balls to our athletes. My biggest complaint this year was Klubnik not being aware of pressure off the edges, fumbles, and discipline. We are undefeated and a challenger this year if we don’t have these problems. I’m really excited for what we can be next year, and we’ll have it figured out early when we play UGA in Atlanta.

Wesco needs to put on 20lbs, or at least get in the weight room over the spring/summer. Hope he is an Early Enrolee, because he’ll need it. TJ Moore is more physically ready to play right now, but may be a little technically behind. High hopes for both! Hopefully they can make an impact like AW0 and TB6!!!

We are who we are at WR. The talent isn’t there vs the 2015-2019 years.
Our only potential for “elite” at the position is wesco/moore which is a lot of pressure/expectations for a freshman without a current veteran “alpha” to take attention away. Ie what we had in our elite years. There has been a lot of recruiting misses and/or under development the last 4 years at WR. Hopefully that trend ends soon.

I think the team will be stacked next year with plenty of talent, even aside from the 2 studs coming in. Turner injured. Randall broken hand. Brown just a true frosh. Antonio Williams injured. Stellato showing promise. Wesco and TJ Moore can stretch the field, as can Turner. It will open things up. Hopefully the OL plays well enough. I see WR as a complete strength going into next year. Hopefully Wesco and Moore are on campus this spring.

Let’s just say I believe we will or should be better than the previous 2 seasons. Of course you cannot predict injuries but on paper we should be fine.

Everything hinges on TJ Moore and Bryan Wesco. If they turn out to be as good as predicted then we will be drastically improved. If not then I think we will be more of the same.

Is anyone else feeling there is a credibility problem with what we are told about recruits? With all the misses the last few years, Ladson, Randall, AjouAjou etc etc we see the same pattern. Big hype when they sign, big hype in spring and then nothing when it’s game time. I don’t believe anything we are told about receivers. The best receiver that has emerged in last three years was a late add 3 star. Same goes for OL. The narrative all summer was how the OL was really challenging the DL. How did that work out for us? The great ones don’t red shirt, either the new class has some difference makers or it doesn’t. We will know soon enough, if it doesn’t then expect more of the same from receiving group.

We lost our most productive WR to the portal and the only additions are freshman. This is a group that has had trouble catching the ball, blocking, getting open and being aggressive with poor fundamentals for 3 years running and no change at coaching. You guys are beyond delusional.

as Freshman who could play early with a nice spring/summer prep. Could be our best group since the year Tee Higgins left. Since then, it has been a downhill slide.
Also TE play will hopefully be strong, Betancur looks like the real deal and hope he can be ready early on to make big plays.
Excited to see if Cade can grow as a QB and become elite. The receivers need to help him though, far too many drops in 2023.
