How good Will DJ be?

I’m looking forward to this year’s spring game because I want to see DJ U in action. Does anyone think he’ll come in and just blow everybody else off of the map in camp? Would he win the job as a true freshman as Trevor did, or will we redshirt him no matter how ready he is to play?

Do not overlook Taisun P. Our QB room is insane right now.

We should redshirt him. Maybe give him 4 games of garbage time in blowout wins for experience.
This will be Trevor's last year as a Tiger barring injury.
We should be fine with him and Taisun.

Redshirt who? DJ? HA do you REALLY think a guy like DJ is a 5 year guy? Don't kid yourself, he's more than likely 3 and off to the NFL and we'd be lucky to get a 4th year from him but a 5th? A 5th year would mean we recruited him and he was nowhere near expectations.

I think Clemson will score some 4th quarter style points with DJ running, passing, or handing off to Bowman. An opponent w/o much defensive depth (and tired) will not enjoy it.

I'd be surprised if he redshirts, but who knows?
I think that may well depend on how close he and Taisun Pommanchanh are. If Pommanchanh is truly ready to be the #2 and there's not a lot of separation, they may try to hold DJ and preserve that year just on the off chance he isn't a 3-or-4-and-done-type guy like his on-film talent would seemingly suggest.
On the other hand, if DJ's demonstrably ahead, the coaches pretty much have to move DJ to the backup spot and won't be able to redshirt him. Having him enroll early certainly helps.
Guess we'll see. I'm certainly curious. Pommanchanh obviously had plenty of athletic tools but he was not impressive throwing the ball in limited chances last year...though for a true frosh, that might signify and it also might well not. We'll see if the game has slowed down for him with a year in.

I think Taison will be the #2 next year. He looked great in the spring game last year and in the garbage time he got to play in. But I don’t think that means DJ gets redshirted, no point since he’ll likely leave after three wait her way.
Going to be a fun spring game this year!

If DJ is anywhere near as good as advertised, he will have to pass TP by before the year is over.
I wonder if TP is making the kind of academic progress that would allow him to follow in Chase's footstep and transfer with two years of eligibility left ?

I think he has a chance to be as good as anyone we've ever had. Having said that, if Brice had stayed I think there's a good chance he would have redshirted. Probably won't happen now though.

He will not win the starting job and he will not redshirt

1. Trevor has a huge head start on DJ, even coming out of high school he was ahead. 2. There's no point red shirting a 3 or 4 year player. It's rare for a 5 star QB to stay in college for 5 years. When it's happened it's because he was in a bad situation. I think DJ is in a great situation.

0.01% chance DJ redshirts without injury. He's too talented and would lose too much early experience by redshirting him as it restricts a ton of ways he can learn and get experience (Andrew Booth for example wasn't redshirted despite injury because coaches are well aware he's too good to stay over 4 years) and the same will be said for DJ. 6'5 243 lbs and an 80 yard long ball with few flaws besides a windup throw just don't stay in college too long. Taisun has his work cut out for him to hang on to the 2nd spot but Brice leaving even though he'd be eligible even after Trevor left is pretty telling to me.
