If by all over the field, you mean "not playing his assignment on the option which resulted in most of Orwin Smith's huge runs," then you're right.
Not sure about VT.

He played well against Virginia Tech. He's got all the intangibles, he's a talented player he just isn't the most disciplined.

Actually he did not play well against VT. Hopefully Anthony will cross train and play some there as well as in the middle.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but I think that's what has so many fans confused about the personnel decisions on defense. Shuey is one of the least "talented" linebackers on our team, but he plays with very good discipline and now he's being rewarded with a shot at the starting MLB job. On the other hand, the opposite is true for Christian and he remains a starter.
I understand much more goes into the personnel decisions, but most of us fans can only go by what we see on Saturdays and things don't add up.

I did see him (Christian) getting chewed out a few times at the start of the game by Venables. Seems like he was playing much better in the 2nd half after that.

Better Question

Why are we not red-shirting Tony Stewart if he can't beat out Tig, Rico or Christian? Same for Townsend, Brooks. absolutely inexcusable waste of major talent, particularly with TS. BV pretty much said he was not ready physically to play and the next thing I know, he's playing Special Teams..... WHY??? He is not an everyday talent that can be replaced.

He (Stewart) has already said no to red-shirting. He will not be here for more than 4 years.

Agreed. Brooks is a burned redshirt..a bad one...he doesn't even play on ST.
Steward and Townsend = burned redshirts for two years in a row.
Sucks. But hey, I'm not a coach so my opinion doesn't matter.

There's no point in redshirting someone that has no desire

There is if they're not getting any snaps anyway.
I fear Tony's not going to miraculously become a high NFL draft pick next year.

And this is really confusing to me because he goes

from virtually playing not at all (other than ST) and then starts over our best LB this year (Willard), whereas Shuey's PT was slowly increasing.
But still, Anthony and Willard TO ME were not the main problems on this defense and now both have lost there spots and the "problems" if you will have yet to be addressed.
That being said, I like these two moves but feel they would be better in a larger context (such as Anthony moving to Sam, and THEN shuey starting at MLB and maybe Steward at Will)
Still issues in the secondary and DE, and I'm still not clear on the plan for Blanks. Had heard before he would be starting at S, did that happen? If it did I didn't notice.

If he's not even starting what options will he have to leave early?
