I do think that James Skalski will be the DC in the future. Kid was a coach on the field, knows the Clemson culture and has a football mindset identical to CBV. It is a no brainer when there is an opening- former player or not I’m for it.

at his age and condition, I just wonder about you making it as a coach.

Managing players, parents, ego's, and managing other coaches

is the hard part. That usually determines whether someone makes it as a coach. We shall see. But he has a long road ahead of him before he's a DC. 10-15 years at the earliest. Will half the people at that time even know the name James Skalski?

He will continue to mature. Tossed from two national playoff games? Ability to communicate with people? Intellectual curiosity? People underestimate how smart - intellectually curious these coordinators and head coaches are- constantly learning. Watching some NFL games and learning more about coordinators and head coaches further reinforces the notion. Great players - and I thought James was great - not translating very often to coaching success.

Let him develop his coaching acumen at several schools...

before bringing him home. Cutting his teeth and perfecting his craft first are important so that when he arrives (future speculation) then he is ready to hit the ground running. Bottom line is to get the best person for the job so hopefully he will be at that level when his time comes.
Go Tigers!!!

I'm sure there are a few ahead of him with the same aspirations so I doubt it will be at OK but I certainly could see him as a future DC somewhere.

Seems like he was always standing close BV too whenever he wasn't in a game. That always made me think he had an interest in coaching one day too, like he was always trying to learn.

I know you're joking, but I noticed it at times when he was hurt and out for the game as well as games where we were blowing the other team out and it was obvious he wasn't coming back in. I'm sure part of it was just a desire to help coach his teammates, but either way it gave me the impression that coaching was something he had on his mind for the future.

These are the same folks who cant wait to get Jeff Scott in the middle of things..for sure Jeff has proven that he can't coach...the book is still open on James...if he works with Venables and is as smart as he seemed when he played he has a chance...JS is a proven loser!
