Think it will be close. Anyone predicting a blowout either way is either trolling, got into the goodnight clemsons a little early, or just plain dont know ball.

Im cautiously optimistic our defense will be much improved. Bringing in so much talented, experienced dudes from the portal has to pay dividends. Facing your offense in DVJ in game 1 will be a test though.

As for our offense, too much is being made about our Oline. Yes they couldn't run the ball last year. Most of that was our interior OL (Center) struggling to hold up. Again we have addressed with with 2 two year p4 starters in Moore (center) and Thompson (G.. didn't give up a sack in 2 years in the b10).

And I have a healthy respect for your invidual players in your front 7, especially TJ and Woods, but you are returning mainly the same defense that was pretty bad last year. Couldn't stop the run, were 100+ ranked in first downs given up, and your secondary was suspect at given up chunk plays. Not a good recipe vs our pass catchers.

Yes I know about Tom Allen. Is he gonna fix everything in game 1? I could see a bug improvement to your defense under his leadership but I wouldn't expect a complete 180 in week 1. Just look at how sloppy week 0 was for a prime example.

Also Nuss ain't the statue yall are making him out to be. He lack of running was 100% mental last year. He was clocked at 21mph in practice. He can run and its been an emphasis in the off season. Yall are gonna be genuinely surprised Saturday night to see GN take off running while your DBs are turned around chasing 3 4.4 speed WRs.

Gun to my head I see a 31-27 Geaux Tigers victory and it might come down to special teams. Altho I hear your punt game is next level :)

I am concerned about Nuss's running ability. Carson Beck was considered a drop back passer who couldn't run, but he hurt us several times running the ball. And as I have mentioned several times I think your OLine is going to be good, just hoping they don't gel for first game in a loud DV.

Thanks yeah some LSU sources I trust confirm GN is a better athlete then Joe Burrow even. JB extended multiple drives with his feet and he wasn't exactly a burner. Just smart knowing when to run, get down and being tough as heck also helps.

No, I don't think that Allen will have everything fixed by game 1. The biggest help for the defense is that we actually have a second DE in Heldt this season. We only had Parker last season and we moved Woods to DE. That turned out to be a terrible decision. Hopefully we are much improved this season but if either started DE goes down with injury, then we are screwed.

Yeah I have a lot of respect for Heldt but that brings up another contradiction ive seen on this forum the last month.

LSUs transfers are all going to struggle with continuity/playing in a new system, or outright suck because their team sucked last year (Braelon Moore from VT for ex).. but Heldt coming from 1-11 Purdon't is just gonna mesh in game 1 and be a superstar.

Now I dont truley believe that just pointing out the contradiction

I was there when BK brought the boys from Indiana to Death Valley in the monsoon. I also was in Dallas when Clemson kicked BK's butt in the semi-final playoff game -- you know, the night that the only thing that Notre Dame caught was the eagle flying around before the game. How did that work out?

Could there be room in your brain for the notion that there is a tipping point in the number of portalers begin to distract and change the chemistry?

I think you'd have to agree if you are being honest, having 1 starting TP kid and having 18 kids transfer in.

We saw it live with FSU last year so there is real world precedence.

I dont pretend to know the ins and outs of FSU's lockeroom but LSUs leaders have been in and remaining in place.

The culture of our locker room is solid. The Weeks brothers, Perkins, Nuss, Chris Hilton. All high character guys who could have easily transferred when the going got rough but stuck around.

We also have a good # of starters looking make the year 2 jump- former 5* dom. mcKinley-DL, high 4* gabe reliford-DE, tyree adams a former 4* tackle who sat and learned behind Will Campbell for 2 years.

Point is, we have more homegrown talent than portal, but we went hard AF in portal this year for positions of need. Supplements but not the core of what we are putting out there. Thats the difference bw us and FSU.

Also FSU 2023 ring a bell? Their portal worked pretty well that year.. to the tune of what.. 1 reg season loss?

So in other words, no you do not allow for the possibility that there is a tipping point where too many TP'ers change the chemistry and not for the positive.

I recognize that tipping point is different for every school, every team. But I believe it does exist and that definitely is greater than 1 (ONE) kid.

I also understand that of course you think the lockerroom culture is beyond reproach, I can't recall a fan ever stating before the year begins that their lockerroom culture is weak or worse cancerous. 2024 FSU fans thought the same thing.

I do know that you are holding up BK, who is widely regarded as a top 5 hated coach in CFB, as some difference maker. He won't the best HC on the field Saturday night and its really not even close.

The real question is, if he loses, will he pull out that god awful fake southern accent in the press conference?

No I agree its possible, its also possible we added just the right mix to compliment the core of our existing team. Guess we'll find out soon.

Its an interesting dichotomy between Dabo's build from within to what we are doing. Dont get it twisted, we are also developing through the HS ranks as well... but with a 5th year senior coming back, Perkins, Weeks, and with Bryce Underwood spurning us for Larry Ellison's $10m, we have ab $10m of our own to spend.

So sorry, but im not sorry we won the transfer portal. We'll see if it translates.

As far CBK hate, I could see that. I wasnt a huge fan of what I knew about him while at ND. But all LSU fans care about is winning. Deliver the goods and we'll put up with a lot. Also realize the national media absolutely has it out for him, similar to Trump. Everything you see or hear is negative 100% of the time and he is never given the benefit of the doubt.

But make no mistake this is put up or shut up time for CBK. We are probably stuck with him for the next 2Y whatever happens, but he said judge him by year 3. Well that didnt go to well but we just invested $18m in this team (was around $5m last year). Its playoffs or bust and that starts Saturday night in DVJ.

Sorry gotta go back to packing up I will be at Esso club at 6pm sharp tomorrow if you want to continue this conversation over a few cold ones.

A single DE end transfer as opposed to 18 transfers coming in, several on the o-line is a bit different. Continuity and trust on the OL is more important than any other position.
Also, we should’ve started Sammy Brown at LB all season. He should be on the field on most snaps. That will help the run defense as well.
That being said, I am expecting LSU to win. I still don’t trust Clemson in big games and LSU has a shitload of elite talent.

You’re talking about 1 transfer having to come in and meld, as compared to turning over majority of your roster with the portal and expecting it to meld immediately.

I agree with some of what the LSU fan said even if we don't want to hear it. Look, I'm 100% positive Tom Allen is going to make a difference for our defense full stop. However, it is true, even with all these supposed 1st round draft picks everyone we played last year basically had Barry Sanders running against us.

Just because our guys look great on paper, it sure never transferred to the playing field.

Even Dabo said the same thing earlier this year. He said all these guys have been hearing how great they are but when you put on the tape it sure doesn't look that way. There is a lot of truth to that. The Clemson D has to prove they are worth what their name/paper says they are.

If they are able to do that Saturday then I see Clemson winning rather comfortably actually. I just don't think the LSU line is going to be able to hold up in game against our D (if it's playing at it's potential).

However, if it's the same old song and dance D that we saw last year, you can forget it. LSU will curb stomp us.

Just my opinion.

...probably by the end of the first quarter, ALL will see that the only similar thing about this year's defense and last year's is that they both wear Orange uniforms.

People think that what Allen brings is scheme, or something else. It's not. What he brings is an aggressiveness, an intensity, and a return to basic defensive football (speed, team defense and tackling) that will make offenses scared of Clemson's D again.

Buckle up.

Nuss is a lot of things, but he's not a runner and he doesn't have the mentality to be one either. I think this is what this game hinges on. He has to nut up.

I think the biggest notable thing about the defense is woods playing his natural position. Him at DE just screamed that we didn’t have a good DE. This will be the biggest improvement in the run game you could ask for.

I think both issues were addressed in the off-season. How well remains to be seen.

This game looks like a shootout either way.

If you listen to the sunshine pumpers, they will tell you your QB is going down 100 times, your running back #29 can’t hold on to the ball, and Clemson wins by 20 or more. That’s the echo chamber.

The rest of us know better. This is going to be tight from start to finish unless the tackling problems are still hanging around.

@hoHonkus - thanks for joining. If you're making the trip I hope you have a blast.

I'd highly recommend making a full weekend out of it - it's gonna be super busy (little town will probably have 250,000 people run through) so plan ahead.

Loose Change used to be my dive when I was there. Esso is a cultural experience. Walking around campus is tiring but pretty.

Clemson fans are by and large pretty nice. You'll get your occasional redneck (shocker - they didn't go to Clemson) who will be obnoxious but I expect it to be relatively cordial as we don't have deep bad blood.

Although I think y'all beat us pretty bad in '59 and in our most recent natty appearance...

Go Tigers!
