If you're pissed about possibly no football this fall....

Jul 12, 2020, 10:21 AM

it's important to put the blame (if there is any) in the right place.

Here is an interview with a leading epidemiologist who helped eradicate Smallpox. The publication is "Wired".

https://www.wired.com/story/larry-brilliant-on-how-well-are-we-fighting-covid-19/?bxid=5cc9e2ae2ddf9c1a7adfc917&cndid=56488411&esrc=bounceX&source=EDT_WIR_NEWSLETTER_0_DAILY_ZZ&utm_brand=wired&utm_campaign=aud-dev&utm_mailing=WIR_Daily_070920&utm_medium=email&utm_source=nl&utm_term=list1_p4

I would love to hear some honest opinions after reading this article.

How has he poorly led?

Jul 12, 2020, 7:20 PM [ in reply to Re: Same old story ]

This is a WORLDWIDE pandemic. Trump took actions by closing out entry from high risk China, well before the masses agreed with him. He closed down the economy when his advisory folks told him it was time. If he would've forced a shutdown in January or February based on flimsy and unknown facts, then the overwhelming majority of everyone (left, right, etc) would have said he was overreacting. Heck, Nancy Pelosi wanted to dance and party in Chinatown after Trump closed China, so please spare me that ANYONE supported closing down the economy in January or February. He has handled the pandemic as well as or better than any country in the world. The U.S. is among the lowest death rate group in the enitre world. We reacted just fine and when it was time to do so. The virus would NOT have been eradicated by shutting down the economy in January or February. Unbeknownst to anyone, it was already too late. Ask the world. Your partisan nonsense is firmly rejected.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This is a gem....

Jul 12, 2020, 10:59 PM

"He (Trump) has handled the pandemic as well as or better than any country in the world."

What numbers back up this argument? Just because an idiot says he is the "best" at everything doesn't make it true.

What leader of what country has he handled this better than? And please back it up with numbers and not your feelings.

I eagerly await your response.

2024 purple level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

i already mentioned the low death rate.

Jul 14, 2020, 11:32 PM

Please let me know of a comparable world leader who shut everything down in January. It was already released all over the world, and certainly in a country like the U.S. where human incoming traffic is likely the highest in the world. You can't possibly look back in hindsight and tell me people would have been okay with shutting it all down in January or February. Do you remember the crowd who called him xenophobic just for closing out China in January? No one in the world (except China) knew what was already unleashed at that time. When his advisors told him to shut it down he did.

Speaker Pelosi was at the Asian New Year's celebration in her district on January 25. Trump shut down air travel from China on February 2. We also know now he did not share advanced warnings he had from the experts until later in February and early March.

Yes I did shut down China, but I should have done it earlier. My bad, I thought it was just a democrat hoax at least that's what Fox told me. It will just go away, the warm weather will kill it. It will just go away. I think Fauci made some mistakes, I didn't naturally. He's a good guy though but made some bad decisions, not as good as my decisions. I make the best decisions. I think that's why I have the best Tigernet ratings. There hasn't been rating this high on Tigernet ever, I think we set a record. Hey Mike, we set a recorded didn't we, highest ratings yet. Yep. After Trump limited travel from China, it’s amazing to look back at comments from Pelosi, Deblasio, Fauci and others about the Covid. No worries. Go see a movie. Come on down to Chinatown. It’s lovely here. China dumped this on us and governors and mayors made it worse. Putting Covid positives into assisted care facilities about as stupid as it gets. Cuomo should have just had them shot. Would have been quicker.

Agree with most of what he is saying. Don't agree with keeping churches closed. Ours is open and is taking some fairly significant measures to keep from spreading COVID.Based on my age, I watch the service on TV. Freedom of religion is a fundamental right. Agree that the UN was a good idea in theory, but in my opinion the UN has solved very little. The US having a very strong military and our alliances have done more to avoid a major war. However, if one is honest, I cannot see how one can disagree that the US response to COVID has not been nearly as successful as in some countries such as Japan, Taiwan and South Korea to name a few. They have tamped down the virus while keeping their economies moving forward.I wish it weren't so, but I think Trump has done a very poor job regarding COVID. If Clinton had been elected,I'm afraid we would still be tightly locked down.I am still glad she lost. The states have not been following the recommendations from the White House Task Force led by Mike Pence. Now here we are. Things are not going well. This is not a media conspiracy although I absolutely believe the media is very biased against Trump and will use any negative news to hurt him. On COVID, Trump has done plenty to hurt himself. Now we have the opportunity to elect a mentally diminished man with the full ear of very progressive people which is a misnomer. What a mess!

Jul 12, 2020, 11:12 AM

so absent from the worldwide conversations. It's one to thing to hunker down and say, "We're America! We don't need no stinkin' foreign help!" But it's quite another to hunker down and do absolutely nothing.

The most comforting part is that he's still saying that there's always time to do better, and that due simply to the passage of months and the work of scientists, we're able to manage the effects of the virus better now. But I think we all have figured out there's no one in any significant leadership role in the country or this state who really is interested in doing better. That's become obvious.

Thanks for sharing this. I had read his previous interview with Wired, but I didn't know he had talked to them again.

I just hope that people who might be inclined to write this whole thing off as a political attack on Trump or who want to simply say, "It's not THAT many people" will read it and understand that the man speaking about the why the US has struggled so much to contain or minimize the virus knows a heck of a lot more about this than any of us.

Trump did not shut down China. That’s typical fake news from Trump. This article doesn’t blame the virus on trump, but instead blames our country’s lack of leadership and lack of response on trump. Seems to me the article is right on target. Anybody that defends trumps leadership and management of this crisis is simply a blind forever trumper sheep. Trump did not shut down China- he tried in a half-assed manner. He stopped Chinese from coming directly here from China, but Chinese in other countries were able to come and, the big mistake, Americans in China (and other foreigners) were allowed into this country without screening or isolation. Lefties BELIEVE that the Government is the ANSWER to EVERYTHING

Jul 12, 2020, 12:30 PM [ in reply to Re: If you're pissed about possibly no football this fall.... ]

It’s NOT!!!!!!! Self Accountability does NOT exist in your Thought Processes’. Mao TSE Fauci is a Leftie who has a Vested Financial interest along with Bill (WHO) Gates and the EVIL Criminal George Soros in various Bio-Pharmaceutical Companies that are working on “Vaccines”. Many years the Flu Vaccination is only as effective as 8-19%. Yet, many on here talk about a “Vaccine” like it’s the end all/be all. However, very few want to discuss the Strengthening of one’s IMMUNE SYSTEM!! If the Government would take a small portion of the Trillions that are WASTED on Pork and Failed Programs, and start promoting proven Natural Supplements (High Quality that USA produces — not Wal-Mart supplements from China) then this Country would be in much greater shape from a Health Perspective and economically as well. Examples- Vitamin C, Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamins D3 and K2. It’s worth noting that the USA closed its last Vitamin C plant in the early 2000’s. There is a small plant in Scotland and all the rest is is produced in, you guessed it: China! BUT, Big Pharma doesn’t want to hear it, because they cannot Patent Natural Supplements! Lastly, perhaps some of you can educate yourself on the origins of where this Virus originated- - China and more specifically the CCP (Chinese Communist Party).

Jul 12, 2020, 3:20 PM

Before I comment, I'll just say that in 2016 I did not vote for either major party candidate and will not be in 2020.

But regarding football and the OP's article link, I think it raises some valid points from a scientist familiar with the topic. If you're a Clemson football fan, maybe this analogy with America's virus response will ring true for you. Remember in 2015 and 2016 when Clemson football team would get a lead but let inferior teams claw their way back. But Clemson 2018 and 2019 seem to have figured out you need to crush them completely? So Clemson 2015=2016 was America at the end of the lockdown. We had a 3-pt lead at halftime and started playing grab-@$$ on the sidelines and lost focus. Yay Memorial Day is here - the virus is gone, let's party. Instead, we should have been more like 2018-2019 and followed the guidance. Reopen in phases only after you met certain criteria. But we didn't. Now here we sit.

I also agree with the previous commenter who disagreed with Brilliant's thoughts on closing churches. I think he said that as a non-believer and out of exasperation. But as a believer, I feel like we need the churches as much in this time as any. Besides, churches have ways to run programs and social distance, stream online etc that can prevent virus spread. I don't think he considered that in his statement.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

If it will make the OP feel better I can dig up some other

Jul 12, 2020, 3:33 PM

articles from medical experts that suggest a view that is contrary to Dr. Brilliant. However, I think my efforts would be rather pointless because the purpose of this whole thread (with an attempt to disguise under the topic of "no football") is not to discuss anything new regarding COVID-19 but to start flinging poo in a political blame game.

If we are really concerned with playing the blame game, then why are we even looking at the US and not putting the blame where it really belongs? I will tell you factually who is to blame: the Chinese Communist Party SOB's who inflicted this disease on the world and who seem to have avoided any real culpability. The CCP is SOLELY responsible for the devastation COVID-19 has wrought. But then again - blaming and holding the Chinese responsible does nothing to further the desired political narrative of those who want to politicize everything in an election year as a blunt force weapon with which to club their opponents.

I could name 22 gamecocks that would be a better president than Trump. Unfortunately the guy is pathetic. Sad for him. He ruined his life, not ours. He’ll be gone soon, and we’ll be left still living in the greatest country on the planet.

I like Biden other than his pathological lying, pandering to leftists, peddling influence, over 40 years of doing nothing, inability to put two words together. I’ll stop there. I’m sure he will make a fine president. Shouldn’t be any Trump related replies. I did say I like Biden, right?

Let’s see a list of Joe’s lies in the past year, then let’s look at a list of Don’s lies in the past year, or how bout don’s lies in the past 24 hours. Trump is LOL thinking about how he can tell you sheep anything and ya’ll believe him! Sad but pretty funny as long as I’m not one of the sheep. He wants to be a dictator, he knows he can’t be one in the US, but it’s hilarious that ya’ll are comforted as you’re being conned by a fraudulent wanna be dictator. The guy has the management skills of a door to door salesman. My apologies to door to door salesmen.

I said he would make a fine president! Pay attention. Three law degrees, full schokarship, top of class at an Ivy League school. Back in the day he was a stand in for Sergeant Schultz on Hogan’s Heroe’s. When he said he knew nothing, it was absolutely true. Trump xenophobic and racist for travel ban. Bernie’s his idol. Can’t see a thing that could go wrong.

Nailed it Tabby. After looking up him on Wikipedia, it is pretty obvious that he leans far left. That's OK, and much of what he said was probably right, but some was not. His blame on southern states for opening up to early is being contradicted by the director of the CDC who says it is likely to have been because of all of the northern visitors over Memorial Day week. No one is sure, but it is likely.

Pretty simple and has always been simple. The Trump cult wouldn't wear masks.

If Trump was smart he would’ve been the wartime president that he wanted to be, the opponent is the virus, he could’ve ramped up production of testing kits with war time urgency and volume like nobody could have imagined, rally the troops, rally the population fight the virus, everyone would have been behind him, I would, close the economy in a real strict way for a short time, and then open up in a well managed manner like other countries are, net net would’ve been much better for the economy. Instead we are all left wondering what’s next. The economy, Wall Street and Main Street are wondering what’s next. Flat out lack of leader ship.

He could have convinced his cult that masks were important.

They’ll probably have to implement the mercy rule on this one and call it early on Tuesday night. Sorta like the chicken coop, everyone can go home early.
