The judge has given the lawyers a week to respond to some final issues before what now appears to be an imminent approval of the settlement is signed.

This will mean:

* ~$20.5M school-paid "salary cap" for all athletes of all sports combined (amount increases annually)
* 105-player roster limit for football (we typically have 130+)
* Unlimited scholarships (up to roster limit) - the ACC has yet to announce if they will allow the full 105 scholarships or phase it in. The SEC is sticking to 85 scholarships for 2025. School can offer as many or as few scholarships as they wish.

NIL will still be added to what the school pays, no limits on NIL still.

My question is how does this address NIL, if at all? If unfettered NIL is still allowed, this settlement does nothing to address the bigger issue. It's simply adding $20.5M to the pot for each school.

The article just says it will give conferences more authority to manage the NIL deals, but no specifics. I doubt the 2 bigger conferences will do anything to limit NIL.

I like the idea of grandfathering in players who are currently on rosters. It mitigates the disruption for student athletes in nonrev sports who could be left high and dry.
