as long as the ugly side of things stays in house, it will not change my view of the program or the sport. I always felt like the kids deserved to get paid, but this is not the way to do it.

They went from student athletes can't make money off their likeness to they can do whatever they want really quick.

I haven’t noticed NIL make that much of a difference on the actual field itself

Would a lot of [good] athletes transfer if NIL didn't exist?

These are future model citizens...not student athletes...most would sell their sister for a dime bag, stolen stereos, dealt drugs, and studied nothing as little as possible and if you don't believe just axe them! Dabo tries hard to recruit better athletes...like ones that graduate!

Quick answer, NO!
Plus there needs to be a limit to a transfer. If student is failing or not attending class then they should be even more limited. If you can't be a good student then the Universities shouldn't allow you to make money from their affiliates.
This wild west of biddingvon students is not what college is about. Universities should not have bidding wars on 17-18yr old students that will make 10x plus what a tenured PHD professor will make just doesn't make sense.
I am not opposed to athletes making money, but the numbers are crazy. They should be paid based on jersey sales, advertising, video games as their noteriety grows through playing for school, not because school bought a HS kid.

No change because of NIL. IMO, It's the unlimited, totally out of control transfers that's ruining college sports.

No change at all. I doubt any changes made will change my mind about college sports. Just enjoy what’s happening on the field not what happens behind closed doors

Better question is how has all the big money affected your view on College Sports anything from Television Contracts to consumers always having to worry about when the television networks need to work out new deals which always coincides with the beginning of some sort of major sporting event. Also Conferences, Schools and Coaches getting huge paychecks while most college athletes are not getting the education they deserve because the school only cares about there athletic endeavors. So Im not upset with a bunch of 18-21 year old's asking were is may cut of the check but I do get pissed off when those same athletes get greedy and nothing is ever enough. But the same could also be said for the television networks, Conferences, Schools and Coaches always wanting more and the consumer is the one left footing the bill. And IM sick of that crap

I only put "much less interested" because it's killed any interest in recruiting I had. I used to follow recruiting hard before NIL and the transfer portal became the Wild West but now it feels like it doesn't matter anymore because such a large percentage of the top recruits jump around now and the transfer portal itself has become Recruiting 2.0 and it's just too much to follow and stay remotely interested in. I liked watching players develop at one school and build legacies for themselves there. But that feels obsolete now sadly.

NIL is simply commerce and capitalism and has no effect on a game once it starts.

of my disposition.
I don't like either the NIL or new transfer rules, but I realize that the overwhelming majority of collegiate athletes will not enter the professional ranks. Rather, I believe it important that their education remains the primary focus, and in that, the powers-that-be are failing for failure to get a grip on the bugaboos from the beginning.
Now, I believe the ugliness that is settling in coupled with a rising chorus of coaches and administrators crying "foul," will force major action to level the playing field. Prime example of this ugliness: the FSU and Clemson lawsuits against the ACC, both of which are predicated upon an uneven playing field. Further, the power and money grabs by the B1G and SEC are ominous and demand immediate attention.
The root of all, of course, is the money, and we know what is behind that. We have allowed television to corrupt and spoil our nation by giving television too much control over our nation's affairs in secondary education. I have said it over and over: perhaps, the Ivies had it right all along, regarding collegiate sports. Interesting to ponder.

NILs a part of it but it's making it so easy to transfer at the drop of a hat as many times as they want that is even worse for me. I don't really blame a kid for making a decision based at least in part on NIL but there should be some kind of commitment required of the player once they are on the team beyond the next portal window. I think guys endlessly jumping around is ultimately bad for them as well as the teams that are having to roster build.

NIL as a sort of a catch all for what's going on...
Apr 8, 2024, 8:55 AM
|
|
has made me much less interested in the sport.
NIL in and of itself is whatever... but it LEADS to kids transferring for money, or not sitting behind someone and learning/developing because you want to start NOW, to a mercenary culture where you're out for yourself over team etc.... In short, building an actual team seems a lot more difficult.
Add to this the disruption of long standing conferences and the seeming inevitability of two 'super' conferences destroying the regionality of the game (in what real sense are UCLA and Rutgers conference rivals?) and the whole endeavor is much less appealing to engage with.

NIL, portal, realignment = wait and see.
At least for me.

They have to put some stipulations around it. Make them sit out a year unless the head coach or their position coach leaves, then you can grant them a waiver to transfer and play immediately.

I think you have to include the transfer portal in this. NIL by itself....
Apr 8, 2024, 11:29 AM
|
|
is nothing big without the fact that schools are paying for players.
If NIL was just a way for student athletes to get paid for their star status... and it didn't affect rosters/recruiting/tampering then it wouldn't be that controversial.
Transfer Portal rules + NIL rules = ruining of the sport unless fixed soon.

Will support Clemson in all sports. Discovered Big Ten women’s bball last year - huge fan. Happy for change in wbb and will go to games.
That’s it. NIL has helped me lose appetite for college sports. I have attended men’s Final Fours before. After Clemson lost haven’t watched it.
