Since it's a thing apparently, Who is the first QB you actually remember?

16

Jul 5, 2024, 6:03 PM

For me it was Rodney Williams. Today we would have called him a game manager most likely, but he usually make solid passes, great reads and put us in a position to win. Anyone know what he's doing now btw? Ok, so what about y'all?

Jimmy (the Needle) Addison was the first one for me too! I never forget

8

Jul 5, 2024, 6:24 PM

Mark Fellers was also on the roster, who two years later would split time with Mike O'Cain during the 1974 "Undefeated Home Season". We finished that season 7-4, and they made a commemorative Pepsi bottle. If we did that today, people would probably be THROWING bottles. My, how times and expectations have changed.

Jul 6, 2024, 7:18 AM

NC got the Peach Bowl bid a week early over us, the bowls panicked and were afraid of missing out issuing bids with 3 games left. NC coach Bill Dooley made the comment that he expected to score a lot of points against Clemson, Red Parker replied in the media, "With the way they play defense he better bring an RC and a moonpie, because it's gonna be a long afternoon!" The result was Clemson 54 UNC 32. We then beat UVA and the Coots to go 7-4 but no bowl bid.

I was at that UNC game as a student in my senior year. We were all mad as he!! that the last bowl bid went to them without waiting to see the outcome (btw, I thought it was the Sun Bowl, but I could be wrong). I think we were up on them 35-0 early in the second quarter. I think our players were mad, too.

He was QB in the first Clemson game I ever remember watching (on TV). It was the 2010 game at Florida State. It was a great, competitive game, but unfortunately the Tigers came up a little short and lost on a long game-winning field goal right at the end of regulation. I would've been a 3rd-grader at the time, so I was 9 years old.

Tajh Boyd was the first one I remember more about, however, because that next season in 2011 was when I first started actually keeping up with the team some on my own, listening to games and shows on the radio, and taking more of an interest in Clemson football.

Mike OCain then Steve Fuller - a long long time ago.

Both my sisters went to Clemson before me. I got there in 77.

Jimmy Bell 1964 I remember the name, not sure I ever saw him play ( would have been 7)...he is still practicing family physician in Hartsville age 79 or 80. I definitely remember Tommy Kendrick 1969. Steve Fuller 1976-78 was a fraternity brother, outstanding QB and student ( valedictorian of Spartanburg High School).

Rodney is the first I remember hearing about as a kid. The first I remember really starting to watch was Patrick Sapp.

Homer Jordan and the championship team of 1981, I was only 6 years old so no memory of that....but being from South Carolina it was either Clemson or the Coots and thankfully the good Lord made sure I went with those Tigers from Clemson....loved orange, loved Tigers....disliked chickens and disdain the combo of any red/black.

Speaking of that awful red/black combo colors, UGA to open the season is less than 2 months away....

Go Tigers!!
