Nice place to spend a weekend? How’s the drive from there to Clemson? Recs for hotels or restaurants?

little overpriced boutiques and stuff like that downtown.
There is a combo grocery store/restaurant downtown that is good for lunch and a couple other nice restaurants. We stayed at Skyline Lodge towards Cashiers, nice but not cheap. Restaurant there was very good.

Depending on the dates, but for Clemson football games I’m not there as much in the fall. 3 bedrooms for adults and then 8 beds for kids downstairs.
30 min to Clemson and you have a dock and possibly a boat if you are trustworthy.

We really like the area. It's pricey and probably overpriced for what it is, but we still enjoy it. Downtown Highlands is nice and big enough for a weekend. There are plenty of hikes for whatever difficulty you want, and some scenic waterfalls.
As others have said, High Hampton Inn or Old Edwards Inn are the solid, traditional choices for hotels.
Ugly Dog is a fun bar. Four65 Bistro has good woodfired pizzas. MountainFresh Grocery has good options too. None of those are fine dining.
It's a super easy drive from Clemson, with the added bonus of being really scenic (especially if you go through Cashiers). The last time we went it was tied into a football weekend and didn't feel rushed.
It's probably 10-15 degrees cooler up there, which is fantastic in the summer.

although IIRC there are some B&Bs up there that are a much better value IMO if you don't intend to spend much time there other than to sleep.
Place is asspensive.
Not sure if there is much to do with kids there though.

back when I tried to play golf. Wade Hampton is where my partners have memberships so at least I sucked on a real nice course.
Beautiful area for sure.
I hate driving in the mountains, so I would rather go south than north. LOL.

Very nice. Check out the waterfalls in the area. A little pricey for me. Imagine if you picked up Hilton Head or Pinehurst and dropped it in the mountains....Highlands.

You didn’t have a “place”, you had a “mountain compound”.
Also, per rule 105.A (aka the crulez beach house rule), even if you had zero claim of ownership personally, if the place belonged to a relative, you can legally say “I had a mountain compound” in the lunge.

if your brother inherited the family lake compound and you got none of it, zilch, nada, zero, can you still claim to be owner's of a lake compound? Asking for a Greenr.

Was living in N. Augusta then, hot as F, so thought Highlands would be much cooler. It was still hot as F in Highlands. Stayed at a B&B with no AC, no cable, etc. Those B&B's can for sure be relationship killers.

With best buds for Eclipse. The grocery/pizza place/limited food menu that also serves cocktails is a treat. Bloody Mary’s outside at picnic tables w/ breakfast was awesome, also had great pizza from there. See waterfalls. For big city, hit Cashiers/Brevard/Walhala. Very Nice for a low key weekend. Um, twisty roads and mountain vistas.
