The Case for Watson
The Case for Watson I have concluded that Clemson's best chance to win football games after the Florida State game this season is with DeShawn Watson at quarterback.
First, several things need to be understood. In my opinion,

Play Stoudt a half against SC State and Watson the other

Then decide from there. IT will be a scrimmage game and a good test.

In case you haven't noticed they don't need to drum up hits.

What did he say that was not understandable. You could easily tell Saturday night that Cole is a "serviceable" QB but he did nothing to wow you. Watson has the "it" factor and you could see a shades of greatness already.

I think CS is more than "serviceable". He had no protection and coaches calling conservative plays due to field position.

Cole Stoudt had a three year apprenticeship. He knows what the Chad wants to do and how he does it. That is why he is in there and not Watson. Watson may have the skills, but not the awareness and knowledge.
Again Stoudt had 3 years to watch and leard. He knows the system. I see no up-side to putting Watson in, not knowing the offense, except to prepare him for next year. I want us to be successful this year.
Stop pushing the silly QB controversy stuff! The coaches know what they are doing and their jobs depend on their decisions. It is too easy to pontificate when you have nothing to lose, but sharing the depth of an opinion.
If this junk continues, it is going to end up being divisive for the team.

Exactly!!! BS like this coming from a blogger of T-Net can cause way more harm than ever any good. The very last thing our team needs right now, is for the team members to be spit with their Opinions of who should or shouldn't be the starting QB. And Bull Chit like that is very easy to get started with 18 and 20 year old young men. And it would just give coaches that are still recruiting hard for some of our recruits more BS to talk/say about us. Cole should be our QB unless he just can't get the job done. Then bringing Watson unto the picture would be understandable. Anything less would just divide the team. MODS, remove this entire thread starting at Plyler's Blog: The case for Watson!!!!

Agree completely. The running game is terrible no treat. DJ could not start for newberry. Change the rbs and let's put lots of zone read in. That is a hard offense to stop.

i don't think Cole should get benched, but i think D.Watson made his case very well! that is when you're not throwing him to the dawgs, literally. our O-line was already colapsing under pressure when they gave DW another chance & with no change in the play-calling you get the same results.
he makes some valid points, but this was the 1st game & the rest of the season will play out before we truly know how good georgia is actually.
we kept up for most of the game, but need something to break a situation like this open in our favor. sometimes a little change-up is all it takes.
i like the zone read stuff & play action, but our line simply has to protect better, including blocking from TE's, WR,s & RB's...which tend to do a better job with size & experience. if that would slow up the deffensive rush & give the QB's more time & options, I'M ALL FOR IT!!!
and i'm definitely still ALL IN...win OR lose!
it doesn't mean you can't critique the coaches & point out much of the obvious.
yeah, they're paid to know their stuff, coach & play... we pay to watch, so we must have some interest & investment in it.
opinions welcomed!!! if you're not a coot!

Our OL isn't good enough to keep him healthy. Playing FSU's defense at Tallahassee could get him hurt. I say develop him game by game.

I say we take a freshman QB into Dope county stadium and whoop FSU the way they did us in DV with a freshman QB. Just show them that our freshman QB can beat them without having to Rape a girl or steal him grabs. What cha say bout dat Mickey!!!

All that from one bad half and on great one?

Really? 2 and a half quarters were awesome. had we won by keeping that level of play up, you'd be yelling to redshirt Watson. Hard for me not to laugh at articles like this. I'm not sure if its narcissism or idiocy, but one thing is for certain.... Georgia is a top 10 team and we're not... yet. Changing personnel and schemes and philosophies after 20 minutes of poor play calling by our OC is incredibly short-sighted and irrational. Good grief. SMH!

Watson did look good on one series. After that he looked like a freshman. To be fair, GA knew we had to pass so they ignored the run and put the rush on. Just like you can't really make a case due to one half, you can't make a case on one series either. Our coaches have a big advantage over us, they see every practice and get to break down film. If you have ever coached at any level, you have to go with what you see in practice.
