having a consistent, clutch kicker on the roster can't be understated for a team with championship aspirations.
I was pretty impressed with Huegel last season, my confidence has definitely grown in him

I can see him doing double, maybe triple time. Would be nice to have someone kick it out the endzone consistently.

Grew up a Clemson fan, can play all 3 kicking positions, loves Dabo and everything about Clemson, also knows he is looking at a healthy and deeply talented program. He could be legendary at Clemson, with his teammates. Especially, if he could handle all three phases of the kicking game.
I'd be happy to join the Tiger ride, if I was him.

It will be so nice to have a kicker who consistently can kick it deep.

They ask Huegel to kick it inside the 5 or right at the goal line. He did that every kick in the spring game. Potter will be a good one.

I will say that our KO coverage has improved enormously over the last couple of years. There was a time when we consistently saw KO's returned way too far (almost never inside the 25 yd line). That has improved. I still like to have Touchbacks. This kid looks like he kicks it really high, so maybe we can start kicking them to the Goal line and making tackles inside the 25. That would be a real plus. LSU , when we played them in the Peach Bowl a few years ago, looked to me to be as good at getting KO tackles inside the 10 dang near every time as I ever saw. That would be a huge turn around from the old days, if we could do that, and this kid seems capable. That is a real weapon, IMO.

I'd like either. Both seem very capable of being weapons, and that is a weapon we need every year.

...consistently more distance than Huegel.
Don't get me wrong, Huegel has been clutch for us. Our opposition rarely has to take a knee on our kickoffs though....just asks for trouble.

As a fellow kicker, let me just say that there is a HUGH difference from kicking in high school to kicking in a Div 1 football game. I looked at our current kickers high school history. Huegel kicked out of the end zone in high school consistently kicking 65-70 yards as was Spence! The size of the ball matters folks! The ball sizes used in some Div 1 schools are smaller. From what I have heard and seen, Clemson quarterbacks prefer the smaller balls...easier to throw but harder to kick. Also the FGs..... almost all kids in high school are kicking off a 1 or 2 inch T for FGs. I noticed that Huegel was not kicking off a T in high school. This is RARE! He has a high school personal record of 51 yarder off the ground during a game. Spence kicked off a T in high school. Is Potter kicking off the ground or off a T for FGs? I hope Huegel's leg grows stronger but overall looking at that he can adjust to a new snapper and a new holder. His first year kicking he was great but he also had a very talented snapper and holder. A fabulous snapper and holder are KEY! The success of the kick depends on a great deal more than just the kicker!
