Dabo seemed annoyed, or proud, cant tell which

A reporter said something like “looks like you got the right guy from the portal” in reference to Heldt. Dabo’s response was “yep. That’s right. Yes we did” (Not exact wording, can’t remember. It was just three short positive phrases followed by 3-4 reasons why he went into the portal. To me it seemed like he was annoyed at the statement, but it could’ve been pride in the choice being hammered home.
Maybe it was both. He is proud of the player and that he chose him to come in but gritting his teeth at the fact it was a portal question….or that he had to hit the portal. Idk. Anyone else get that feeling?

I think the reason is he isn’t playing him enough and the reporter was pointing that out and Dabo missed it.

Ah. I can see that. Did the statement sound like he was annoyed to you?

It should be proof, for even “stubborn Dabo”, that he should use it more. Sprinkle in 10 to fill our glaring “slow” spots and the team would be much better.

To a point to where he has mastered it, and right now the portal is not mastered by Dabo. Norvel had an undefeated team 2 years ago and the entire team quit on him when they missed the playoffs. Loyalty is a big factor with Dabo. Just my oppinion

He needs to get used to the portal

His lack of portal players has been a big reason for his and our downfall the last 5 seasons.
His unending belief that HIS homegrown high school players are the best players have blinded him to reality.

I don’t disagree. This year is an outlier, but in the last few years he has the built in excuse of “we are a young team”. Well, we will be perpetually young if we lose 5-10 players per year that are rising juniors and seniors then have to replace them with recruits out of high school.

College football has changed. The NIL and Portal have changed the entire playing field. Dabo fought it and he's been screaming into the wind ever since. College football has changed and Dabo continues to refuse to adapt to change all the while hiring friends and family to run his failed business model.

Depends on what the meaning of “failed” is in this scenario. I love the guy for sticking to his principles (somewhat), but also see some hypocrisy in his words and actions (“ if we start paying players I’ll go do something else”, making 11 million a year, staying after we start paying those players). I’m just not certain the reason of his insistence of those principles. I’ve called it pride before, but it could be he just truly believes in his principles. That doesn’t track with him flip flopping on paying players and staying in coaching.
Idk. In every metric the program is still “successful” if graduating players, building good men, etc are the primary goals (with having a top 25 team).
Just seems to me huge $$$ will be lost at this trajectory. The school can’t and won’t weather that with the size of the school, the dollars from donors, title nine, the coaching staff salary, size of the city.
Love everything about the program EXCEPT its current trajectory. Well, and the coaching hires. Allen gets more time. Riley? Who knows. It’s hard for me to believe that’s Lincoln’s brother making those vanilla calls, vanilla plays and refusing to run tempo. It’s clear to me that’s where Cade is at his best. He thinks too much between plays. Spiller? Can’t get behind him. Though I rarely post in here, on SM I’ve stated numerous times our WR regress after their freshmen/sophomore seasons. I hope I’m wrong, but we aren’t coming down with contested balls like last year. Moore and Wesco SEEM to me to be getting less separation. Our TEs are nowhere to be found.
Anyway, that’s my diatribe. Take it or leave it.
