When stuff like this begins to leak out, it is an indication someone is talking “deal”. This appears to be ESPN’s opening salvo, so likely will get negotiated down some from here. Clemson/FSU have found leverage that many doubted they could find on this GOR thing. Too many skeletons in the closet coming out for ACC and ESPN not to cut this discovery off at the pass. They want to spit the lure out now!

so a counter will come back and it will get better for us but framework/concept seems like a realistic approach given all the interested parties who need to get something out of it. Otherwise it becomes a winner take all situation with a legal ruling and no one wants to tempt that fate. Mediation is best in contract disputes. Split the baby into pieces.

We will do much much better They won’t get our media rights past 2027 period because of the re-up with ESPN or Clemson & FSU will sue the new members for the money they get as they weren’t a part of the original deal.
The fact they were added only helps our cause.

Starting point. Chess not checkers here. Recovery mode from a totally ridiculous hose job in 2016 (whenever) and now the ship is taking on water.
CU/FSU will look to sweeten but they won’t walk away.

Somehow, I doubt that fsu and Clemson would have committed to putting out a large sum of money on a wing and a prayer. They must have had good reason/ feeling for winning, or the whole point was to go to mediation. The writing is on the wall. Both schools are leaving. Why make the situation worse. ACC may want to go to mediation in order to not give other schools a way out.

So that would mean competing against teams every weekend who get twice as much revenue we get for 12 years. Yikes, not a fan. If true, I hope this is, indeed, just a first offer in negotiations.

do not want to come out. Both the FSU and Clemson cases know they have found something that gives them leverage here. As things get revealed and weaknesses are exposed on the GOR front, the cost for FSU and Clemson will go down further. Other options are available. The B1G and Fox still have yet to weigh in but once the additional facts come to light, that dynamic lights up. ESPN and ACC are just trying to sew this up now in hopes FSU and Clemson bite. They won’t right now. More to come before they are at the point of settling. Especially on those terms.

The ESPN contract is not through 2036. It has to be renewed in 2027. So, FSU and Clemson are only on the hook for 3-4 years. Not 12. They will leave the ACC by paying less than 100 million and will not give up any media rights. That is what will be negotiated. Otherwise the Florida judge will let them exit for nothing. IMHO.

Understand there’s strategies by folks in high places that utilize selective leaks like this to key influencers in social media b/c it tends to go viral and create a groundswell of discussion and reactions by certain parties in cases like this better than just discussing it in a backroom of select few involved. It is called social-engineering the negotiations outside of official channels.
Trust me, Neff and FSU’s AD have heard about this and likely discussed it too even if not formally offered by ESPN or the ACC. Same with certain folks in the SEC and ACC. This is just all of the game now as things quickly progress towards mediation phase.

He is not beholden to folks like ABC or ESPN and strives not to get caught in their control. He likes to be able to say and think freely about college football mostly, among other things on occasion. He is very reluctant to believe in conspiracy theory nonsense and all they hype and hoopla that many tend to through out to generate click bait - especially on the never ending “conf realignment” topic. He likes to keep it real.
Now all that said, he loves to needle folks who believe crap like that. He mocks them. But in this case he saw this one has having potential because it is not a bunch of Pollyanna pro FSU people pushing it and it isn’t an easy solution to prescribe. There’s gonna be some real compromise here to pull this off. But is doable with the right %/$. That’s all. Not that this is how it will end up in the end.

ESPN holds the cards with the ability to end the ACC contract by 2027. And if the ACC demands payment from Clemson and FSU through 2036, ESPN could opt to pull the ACC plug 2-3 years from now.
Disney already has their hands full in Florida with DeSantis and the theme park. Disney/ESPN may not court even more ire from FSU faithful.
And Clemson may have some cards to play as well. Getting more interesting.

The guy in the twitter post… I doubt he’s the one with the actual info but this falls right in line with what one of the posters over on the cluckers board posted.
He didn’t go to any source but he’s a lawyer… yes he really is bc you can tell he’s broken down these law suits and court filings and knows his stuff.
I read the entire thread a what the OP posted is right in line with what the clucker broke down in that thread.
Dude did a whole break down and he’s 1000% correct. Remove the fandom and rivalry for a minute. He’s been saying this same thing from the get go… Clemson/FSU will be in the SEC very… very soon.
ESPN/ACC DO NOT want that GOR leaked at all. ESPN will be the reason we move bc they have pretty much or will very soon tell the ACC… either settle and let Clemson/FSU out or we’ll choose not to renew the contract and you’ll lose them anyway for nothing.
Clemson/FSU will be SEC bound by 2026 at the very latest but it could very well be as soon as 2025.
Yes it’s an opinion to this point but the guy was extremely fair towards Clemson/FSU and kept the break down exclusively about the lawsuits and didnt let fandom into the break down.
I would highly suggest going to read the theme thread for 2 reasons…
Obviously the main reason would be bc his break down makes a ton of sense and it’s rooted in reality… the 2nd reason is to laugh at the fear and denial from the rest of the cluckers in the thread. It’s absolutely hilarious bc they know it’s coming but don’t want ti accept it and are fighting the guy tooth and nail but he had a legit come back for every condescending response.
It’s going to happen sooner or later but my feeling is it will be much… much sooner bc with every passing year we fall a little further behind and Clemson/FSU are not going to stand for that.
So for those of you that the the idea of the SEC logo on our jerseys… I highly suggest you either come to terms with it and accept it or find something else to do on Saturdays bc it’s going to happen. It’s not a matter of if but when.

While this may be totally made up, it is believable. ESPN is the one who holds the cards here. Really Disney. Disney is shopping spinning off ESPN. They don’t want contract details leaking out in court or a judgement in the case complicating their ability to sell the ESPN asset. ESPN currently owns the TV rights to both the SEC and ACC. They could facilitate a move of FSU and Clemson to the SEC, control the payouts to the SEC and include an early negotiation of the expiring ACC/ESPN deal. They are the only one who jails those cards. If FSU and Clemson want out and into the SEC, ESPN is the perfect organization to facilitate that. It is probably in their best interest to try.

Also, by facilitating a deal between private parties (ACC, SEC and ESPN) -- the details of the actual transaction can be shielded from public view (so UNC can't see the price tag for a buyout). Which, in theory, can keeps the ACC alive for the foreseeable future.
So the deal ends up with FSU and Clemson agreeing to a "buy in" for joining the SEC rather than a "buy out" from the ACC.

This is merely ESPN's first move on the chess board...we can and will do better than that because the ACC do NOT want Swofford's shenanigans aired in public.
