I agree! He was not “all-in”. If he wanted to go to Duke (which might be a mistake), why didn’t commit to them in the first place. I guess it was show me the money and I think there was was some tampering going on.

Proof... Prior to schools/alum being able to pay players legally, when was the last time we lost a 4 star athlete to a non-football school after he already committed to us? Why ask such a question?

This still doesn't answer the question: prior to NIL, when was the last time we lost a 4-star commit to a non-football school? Has this ever happened? I can't recall of a situation like this in my prior 20ish years of following Clemson recruiting message boards.

So good luck with that stupid decision. You are the only 4-star recruit on a recruiting class with 23 3-star recruits, that are predominantly medium-low to low 3-star recruits. That stupid decision might make you a little richer in the short term, but you will be on a Puke Bluedevils team that will strive to mediocre at best. Last year's team was one of the best teams they have had in decades. Puke will be mid-level to low mid-level, maybe bottom feeders while you are there, likely greatly reducing your chances of being a decent draft selection. Maybe you can play down to the 3-star level while there, if you don't hit the portal in a year or two. ####, some people make such stupid decisions to have a little bit more ca$h to put in the bubblegum machine. That is objectively false. Duke absolutely helps get into a better medical school, even if GPA/MCAT still reign supreme. And the quality of med school makes a tremendous difference in what residencies/fellowships you're competitive for. You don't see MUSC grads at elite hospitals for that reason.

Duke is a good platform for him to get immediate playing time.

The bigger money programs will evaluate the film and determine what to pay him.

If he’s just OK, then S.Carolina or NC State will ‘win’ the Bryce sweepstakes.

If he’s gangbusters, then the REAL money schools will conduct their auction.

Throw in the NIL loot and homeboy's family and friends can drive an hour to see him play and can get good seats without having to spend a fortune. If he shines, he will be drafted. The NFL is full of players from schools not in top 10.

They did whip our Tigers not more than a year ago, so there’s that.

It used to be that Clemson was the premier football program in this conference and the best players in the region coveted a Clemson offer. Now, we’re not at the top and there are other options. We’ve played ourselves into this position.

You sir are a m o r o n. Duke was also in the ACC championship this past decade, so what. Beating the Tigers 1 time didn't flip his commitment. 247 said Clemson is top 5 in talent so just quit with your m o r o n i c complaining. It's obvious your football knowledge is nill. Idc where the kid goes but thinking Clemson only winning 30 games the past 3 years had anything to do with it shows your ignorance. I can guarantee you Duke hasn't won 30 games the past 3 years and the coaching staff that beat Clemson last year is gone. I swear ppl like you should move on to a different fan base. Maybe be a Bama fan bc they are the only ones that meet your high standard the past 16 years. Clearly Clemson being in a transition period just isn't good enough for you. Unfortunately we all know you aren't going anywhere and the only time you'll comment is when it's time to complain so I'll just end it with a f u c k you and have a good day.

Posters using that is really a cut on Dabo and all the staff. Saying the kid has little values or character because he decommited, or that he was a developmental player etc doesn't speak highly of our staff. We really wanted this kid and he has tons of talent.

He is one of our highest rated players. Make no mistake, this one hurts. Sorry to see we missed on him. The staff was counting on this kid and probably a starter in his sophomore year.

With producing quality D-linemen. Guess he wanted more up front from Duke instead down the road NIL/NFL $ he'd have gotten here.

If we're gonna be honest, no CFB fan should get excited about a commit until their name hits the fax machine on NSD. Not w/ how things are now.

Hopefully staff will flip or find a guy to fill that void in the class.

Lowest rated of our DL recruits. Say he wanted more than Adams, Watford, and Campbell, are you going to give him more? Seems you just move on to another fish. Sure, you’d like to keep him, but if the NIL game is what’s he’s playing, you have to pick and choose your spots.

I'm not saying he wasn't highly valued, but do you give him a higher NIL package than what you give the players rated above him? What does that say to those guys? Do they come back to the table wanting a bigger bag for themselves? Like I said, you've got to pick your spots. Not sure this is an area where the coaching staff wants to keep increasing the offer. I'm sure they know the price tag if they want to revisit it, but right now, they don't seem to deem it worth it.

With our unwritten no-compete clause regarding NIL, this is a sign of more misses to come. As much as we want Dabo's ethically correct values to work, it's now a money driven game (recruiting). We will either pay or we better keep those natty's from 16 and 18 polished because there will not be anymore anytime soon. Flame away, but the facts are that the majority of high school kids will never turn down 250k-500k. Ever!!

Not really. Once the House settlement is finalized, and we're paying players directly, all major schools will be working with the same pool of money for revenue distribution. The NIL collectives can be brought in house to work for the university, where we'll have more say, or they can work outside as collectives. Any 3rd Party NIL deal over $600 has to go through the conference and NCAA clearinghouse to make sure they're legitimate, and to make sure they're market value. So, no, what is happening is not a sign of things to come. Right now it's the wild west.

1. That settlement is proposed. It has not been finalized.

2. If upheld, it only applies to NIL paid by the schools.

3. Private NIL deals will still predominate with elite athletes.

4. The NCAA cannot interfere with it regulate private NIL deals whatsoever.
The rulings in Alston vs NCAA, Te vessel vs NCAA, and Ohio vs. NCAA still keep the NCAA out of that.

The House settlement diesb't iveride either the Interstate Commerce Act or the Sherman Antitrust Act.

Re: Not so.

1. Never claimed it was, and even wrote "Once finalized". The conferences have agreed to it though.

2. No, players would be required to report any 3rd Party NIL deal above $600, which is not what is paid by the schools, but what is paid by the outside NIL collectives. This would go to the "clearing house" run by the conferences to see if they are fair market value.

3. I'm sure NIL deals would still be a bigtime cash cow with elite athletes, but you'll have less hands in the cookie jar if they're getting revenue sharing directly from the schools who get to set their own "salary cap" based on what they allocate of the $20 million.

4. NCAA may not be able to, and they seem to admit those limitations in the settlement, but we don't yet know the willingness or power that will be granted to the individual conferences. Regardless, even with the settlement, the conferences want congress to step in and provide legislation.

College football is moving towards an NFL model, whether people want to believe it or not. I'd say, in 10 years time, all of these players will be considered employees, they'll probably have a legitimate union, and there will be collective bargaining. You'll start seeing LOI's become 4-5 year contracts, and with this settlement, you're already seeing a salary cap. Will any of the house settlement work? Idk, but the current environment is not sustainable when it relies on boosters to fund the whims of 18-22 y/o's.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

The NIL collectives aren't going to be brought in house.

Never said they would be forced, but schools have the option to bring them in, and it doesn't count against their 22% revenue sharing cap.
