I was talking to a work associate in our Houston, TX office. He is an attorney and a Texas alum.
When I asked him who he wanted to replace Brown, he said there would be a long list of candidates and that Tressel would likely be among them.

I thought the ESPN 30 for 30 thing about him said he cant coach for 5 years due to NCAA sanctions. Hence why his role at akron is not in the athletic department

He is effectively off-limits until after the 2016 season.
He said Texas could still hire him but would have to explain to the NCAA why it shouldn't be sanctioned for hiring him. He also said the school would face some pretty severe penalties if he committed any further violations as their head coach.
Waaaaaaaay too much baggage IMO.
