From my days in town. Already weird enough w/o Clemson House.
Didn't get to experience living in Johnstone, but think that was a badge of honor for the 1s who did.
Ice cream nights @ Harcombe were worth the trek clear across campus. The real MVP for me was the Chick-Fil-A that used to be in the Union...had a 3 hr class on Wednesday nights my Jr year that when I got out, dining halls were closed. The CFA & other vendors in the Union were still open long enough I could grab a good ol' #1 combo & a chocolate parfait to eat on while doing homework.

Sounds like it was a good place to get relief from constipation. Was eating USAF food up until three weeks prior to enrolling and commuted to class so never had to sample it.

Lived in Johnstone as a freshman for a semester in the early 80’s. I do remember Harcombe opening up at nights with cookies and snacks during exam weeks. Also, I was a big kid so the full breakfast was great.

I remember midnight breakfast of pancakes and ice cream during exam week in Harcombe. I was not very fond of Harcombe when I had to eat every meal there, but I still have good memories of exam week and shrimp or steak night when you got a ticket for one or the the other on Thursday nights. The steak was as tough as shoe leather and the shrimp wasn't much better, but it was something different.

People talk crap about Harcombe and my mother is a great cook, but I had some good times in Harcombe. If others hated it so much, they wouldnt bring it up as much. Food wasn't great, but we had some serious laughs in Harcombe. I remember the organized food fight days, the snow days when we stole treys to sled on, the cookie monsters with stacks of cookies in Johnstone. I lived in E3 for 3 semesters, 2 of those semesters were absolutely fun although they were my lowest GPA yrs. There is Johnstone, then there is Johnstone E3, ground level out of Student Union and all parties passed through E3 along with possum and skunks, some I chased indoors on purpose. Fun days and would never want to change my days. Thornhill was a blast as well living with the crazy baseball players in my duplex. Living off campus was never the same as on campus.

Hard choosing between burger and chicken patty. Missing prime night and getting extra tickets from the “girls” who acted like they only ate salad for dinner. Took a plate, cup and silverware day one to have in my room for off eating times and brought it back 4 years later. Nothing had changed in decor of the silverware and plates in that time.

Had the good fortune of enjoying sweet tea made by gold-chained Amos and omelettes by Mrs. Iola.
Iola had several stainless containers of individual omelette toppings at the station as well as one with all of them combined. My favorite thing was watching people order “everything except onions” and watching her suck her teeth and lazily slap a pinch of each other ingredient on the eggs while they cooked. Highly entertaining.

That would be a pretty tough schedule in 2024. I think Tulane was 11-1 last year also. If we added in the App St from this year or a Miami to add a conference team, this would be a top 5 SOS for 2024.

Lol I know. I remember all the 1:00 games even as recent as the 80s and probably early 90s.
I always think it’s laughable when people act like night games at Clemson are some big tradition.

and she'll ask me about buildings. Once we leave west campus, my default answer is "I have no idea." I don't even know what some of them on west campus are anymore. No idea what the "new Johnstone" is called, or the building in front of the shoeboxes. Do they have nicknames? No clue.
All I can tell her about is what used to be there, with a few exceptions now.
We're becoming relics with our memories, and I'm only in my 50s!

I object to the "memorable" portion of that message. The Union, Harcombe, the post office, Edgar's, the bowling alley and pool tables area have all been very memorable. I get that times change and new buildings will replace old but don't suggest that whole complex wasn't memorable.

at Clemson AND on occasion at USuK, I can assure you without any doubt, Clemson had by far the better of that deal. If for no other reason than, a Clemson meal ticket got you unlimited food, whereas down in Cooterville, at least during the time I was at Clemson, they had to tear off little square coupons for just about everything they got, and it was limited.
That was Shirley the reason for the "Freshman Fifteen" that I and a lot of my fellow classmates put on at Clemson. Man, some of those guys (and gals!) really took advantage of late brunch. I can clearly recall trays (not mine!) with eight glasses of milk on them, and an additional couple of glasses of CHOCOLATE milk to boot. Small bowls piled high with doughnuts, and individual boxes of cereal. It's a wonder some of us ONLY gained 15 pounds!
Having a 7 day meal ticket literally saved my life at Clemson, because I had no control of money whatsoever. If I had had to buy food on the weekends, I would have starved. I usually only held back enough to be able to buy a grilled cheese and a hotdog in the little cafe below the Student Union, when I would collapse there after making it up the long hill from Fike, after playing pickup basketball or intramurals. That was a long hike some evenings. Especially since I still had many stairs to go, to make it up to Old F4.
Harcombe also was the site of one of the funnest concerts from my time at Clemson, the Sha Na-Na type 50's greaser band "Flash Cadillac and the Continental Kids". They brought down the house. I still remember the front several rows of people getting sprayed with beer after the drummer played "Wipeout" on full cans of beer, then opened them on the unsuspecting crowd. It was a simpler, good time.

The salad bar had these little tiny tomatoes on it, and he would rim the bowl with those things, and pile stuff inside it until he literally made about a foot tall salad, in the SMALL bowl. The cashier would give him the evil eye every time she rang him up, but what could she do?
