Not likely kin - but the picture of the spot she reportedly crossed the river is a familiar sight from the Highway 49 bridge between Laurens and Cross Anchor.

It sure is ...... Sandy Ford. But I think most of the history books have it wrong which river she crossed. It was the Enoree ..... not the Tyger.

Maybe that was her biggest act of heroism. Interesting, during those times it was not unusual to have a lot of children, as many of them died at birth or soon after. I believe I am correct that 16 of her children reached adulthood ....... amazing. She married at age 16 and I think her husband Capt. Thomas Springfield was bout the same age.
