football program is where it is today. After all, he hired Dabo and lobbied for Dabo to be our interim coach when he was fired. All you Tommy haters owe him a big apology and at least a friendly Christmas card this year. It appears that hiring Tommy was one of the best things we ever did.

taking full advantage of wins over fading programs like Tennessee, FSU and the coots to hold on to his job. It was a charade - a lie. They weren't going to hire him.
He regularly underachieved with the level of talent he recruited and was terribly inconsistent. It was HIS results and the tendencies of his teams that birthed the term that we shall not mention.
It's no accident that he's not a coach now, despite the fact that in the coaching realm he's still a fairly young guy. He's not a head coach at this level... and it took us about five years too long to figure that out.
As for the "facilities"... blah blah blah. A lot of guys could have gotten that done and QUICKER if we had actually been building the program during the final five years of TB's tenure. Instead, he was squandering talent, playing us with the Arky coaching charade, and in my opinion generally ripping Clemson off. Does anyone REALLY believe it took HIS special talents or skills to convince the BOD that we needed to pony up the cash for first class facilities at Clemson?? For heavens sakes, WHY?

The only way I would credit TB for the facilities upgrades is if he had ponied up a quarter million or so for their construction. Its not much of a stretch for a coach to lobby for better facilities.

Good point. In any job it is important to be a good fit. Dabo is an excellent fit no doubt. TB did recommend him and that is an important fact to remember.

It took him 3 years to refer to HIS football team as "US". For the longest Clemson's football team was referenced as "THEY" at every turn. What a putz.

Thank Boddy Robinson and Max Lennon for firing Danny and hiring Hatfield.....and so on. At the end Tommy Bowden was never the talent that Rich Rod was. Just took too long to accept it.

Tommy Bowden deserves absolutely no credit for anything Clemson has done the last 5 years or for what they are going to do in the future. Sure he said Dabo would make a good interim coach but I would guarantee that he never thought Dabo would last past the bowl game. Dabo accomplished more in this year alone than Bowden did in his entire career at Clemson. TB might have been a good person but he was a terrible football coach and the best thing to ever happen to Clemson was him being shown the door. Not sure why some still consider him in such high praises. This is the same guy who continues to talk down about Clemson on TV every chance he gets and said that DW should not even be considered for a Heisman.

I am willing to bet good money that TDP was going to make Dabo interim head coach before Bowden suggested it.
Some people here act like TDP was some idiot who would never have known who Dabo was if Bowden had not brought his name up.

Coach TB did not change the culture, hire Brent V, hire Chad Morris, beat LSU, beat Ohio St, beat OK, win the Division, win the ACC or win a BCS bowl.
Now coach TB certainly did not beat 40+ unranked opponents in a row, win 15 in a row, go undefeated at home twice in a row or completely redefine and restructure the word "##########."
But supposedly he lobbied for Dabo and we know he hired Dabo as a WR coach. And he complained about the facilities and was as he stated often "only 1 or 2 plays away" from a different season.
Giving TB credit for what Dabo has built is like....saying we won ACC Championship Saturday bc Kelly Bryant converted a 3rd down play to keep drive alive when DW went out.
