GT's 1st 5-Star ever, OL Josh Perry, was promised $2 million

Via a NIL deal..

thus beating out 2 other big name schools (Ohio St being one but Buckies had just spent $20,000,000 to assemble their current transfer class and didn't have $).

This is wild and has gotten so out of hand & greedy.

And now the plan is for the top 50 schools to put up at least 22% of revenue or $22,000,000 per year to set aside for 10 years to pay players..Thus taking control away from NCAA.

Can or will Clemson play this game of high financial investment for football dominance & fame?

Clemson can play the game if Dabo let them.***

Do we have the NIL money to do so? Genuine question as I have no idea what we are working with financially

I know there are teams spending upwards of 20 million dollars. I don't think we can compete with that but I may be wrong

IF Dabo held a news conference with IPTAY and the collective(s) tomorrow

and announced a new NIL strategy and expressed the need for raising funds, the money would pour in.

Sorry Injun, this is not true. Clemson does extremely well to get the money we have, and it goes a long way. We don’t have the wealthiest Alumni/fans compared to the rest of the country, and we can’t compete on volume of graduates (smaller overall classes). I encourage anyone interested to check out the 2005-2022 cumulative booster dollars of all teams. We were 17th at $476 million. Georgia was 5th at $716. #1 was Oregon at $969.

Also, for those complaining about his salary, if Dabo took $0 it still wouldn’t come close to the YEARLY NIL of those were competing with.

I hate it, but this new era is going to be almost impossible for Clemson to remain relevant.

this wouldn't be such a loud constant issue for our program.

Nepotism cost the program development. I don’t know why an offenseIve skill players would even come to Clemson at this point. You’re not gonna get good coaching at all.

but he's one of the top QB prospects in the class of 2025 or 2026. His parents have made their position abundantly clear. Unless you are coming to the table with a minimum $2.5 million annual NIL deal, don't bother wasting our time.

That 22% is part of the House settlement. I think we all hate this new pay for play nonsense. Revenue sharing, however, looks to be here to stay. Accept it or be left behind. At this point players want to be paid (pay for play disguised as NIL) fair market value. Can’t blame them. I always wanted to be paid what I believed myself to be worth to a company. Why are the players any different? Love it or hate it, it’s the way it is now. I have seen Ohio States $20 million NIL referenced quite a few times recently. It is not coming from the school. It’s coming from boosters who have seen the cheaters to the North win 3 straight. Boosters appear to be coming strong. A lot of it is going to players that have proven themselves on the field. There are 7 transfer players out of the 22 starters. I am sure they are receiving their fair market value. Obviously some portion is going to incoming recruits. Do you guys want Clemson to field the best team possible? Unfortunately this is the only way.

How do you guage "fair market value" for a kid that has never played D1 ball

Well you cant. Its just a bidding war based on hopeful projections, hence why the big dollar programs will dominate the sport moving forward and everyone else, well......wont. Its asinine this was allowed to happen.

Dabo's initial contract was a guaranteed $800,000 making him the lowest paid coach in the conference.

He bet on himself with incentive raises. If he made it to the ACCCG (something Clemson had never done) - his annual salary increased the meet the median compensation of the other ACC coaches. This took him one year

If he won the ACC (something Clemson hadn't done in 17 years) - his annual salary increased to match the average total pay of the seven highest paid league coaches. This took him three years.

Dabo bet on himself and won. He earned where he currently sits. If he didn't establish the high expectations for Clemson football - he wouldn't be getting the dollars he makes.

You think the “fry operator” pay at McDonald’s should be in the neighborhood of the store manager’s salary?

By all accounts, there wasn't a bidding war for Josh Petty. He wanted to go to GT, but he wanted a "fair" offer. In other words, he didn't want to take significantly less money than he could get at another school. Sounds like he was offered around $800k/year, including incentives.

That still seems expensive. One OLineman will not change a team. A stellar QB can, especially if he has escapability and can throw on the run.

I assume he will play left tackle, which is one of the highest-paid positions in the NFL. It's not quite as important as a starting QB, but it's still a key position.

If he doesn't have a goof O-line he better have escapability and be able to

It is crazy what some of these guys are getting paid just to sign with a team. There is absolutely no guarantee that they will work out. I believe that is part of the problem with our last 2 QBs. They have received NIL and it seems as result, Dabo believes we have to keep them happy. FSU seems to be leaning the same way with DJU. I think it has been detrimental to the team, but I also am not paid $11.5 Million a year either. These teams are handcuffed because of the money they have given to these athletes and it is hurting the overall program because of it.

I do believe players should have been able to market themselves after being enrolled, but I don't believe it should have been done in the manner of which it has become. Some of these guys are being paid more than NFL players.

Make admittance standards same as for students. They’ll quickly forget NIL and ask to be admitted to play football on scholarship.

I don't think Josh Petty would have a hard time getting into GT as a regular student. He's a straight-A student from a good private high school, and he chose GT at least in part because of the academics. He wants to be an engineer when he's done playing football. He also had Stanford in his top 5.

Once the revenue is shared in addition to NIL money it’s just a matter of time before the players are employees with contracts instead of scholarships. Enrollment as students will be entirely optional.
