In 1967 freshman game Clemson vs. Georgia, I was back to punt for Clemson and as I went to kick, I saw that all the players from Georgia were peeling back to set up and return wall and not a single soul rushed me. So I took off on a 50 yard jaunt down the sideline right behind the wall of UGA players. It was the funniest thing ever when we watched the film the following week because it looked like the UGA players were setting up a wall for me as I was following them down the sideline. Crazy play, I will never forget.

I used to love the FIRE call. I played QB, FS, punter, PK, and Kickoff. Yes, I never came off the field in high school. I thought that’s how everyone played! 🤣 I digress, when the entire defense turned their backs to me I’d yell FIRE and the fun was on! One guy was designated receiver (in case the pass was open) and the rest used common sense to block any that caught on. I never got a TD on one but I did get five first downs my senior year.
