Deshaun Watson still gives Kirby Smart nightmares
Kirby Smart still has nightmares about Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. Smart was hired as the head coach at the University of Georgia in early December, but Alabama’s former defensive coordinator juggled both duties as the Crimson Tide prepared to take on Clemson in the College Football Playoff National Championship in early January. Atleast we have a solid kicker. We should have a lot

Of solid players on the field for kick coverage. Punt returns won't change because it's that way across the country. 90% + are going to be fair catches unless the punter screws up or does something stupid. We had several players trying to do their own thing on kick offs and if the returner cut it back everyone knew it was over because that side of the field had collapsed. Hopefully that will be fixed next year.

I expect we will see more guys like Watson at Clemson. You named three once in a life time players and we have seen three of them in the last 10 years. I expect it will keep going under this staff and we should expect it demand it. We are one of the big boys now and should think like it.

Poster. I commented only on special teams and explained why I'm pretty optimistic our special teams will be solid next year. The fact that one or more posters got upset and down voted my comment simply because I expressed optimism and explained why I'm pretty confident in our special teams shows how cootlike some of the tshirt fans that happen to be on the clemson bandwagon are. It's like they can't enjoy themselves unless there's something they can b!tch and moan about. I don't accuse people of being coots because I know we have a handful of fans that should have been coots. It makes you wonder how pathetic of an individual it takes to be that desperate rival or the embarrassment of a fan that only seeks out the negatives and worst case scenarios.
I'm not talking about you because you're obviously not the chicken little type. Regardless I agree with what you're saying and have no doubt in my mind we will see more and more elite players flocking to Clemson. I agree with everything except the idea that a Deshaun Watson coming through is commonplace and is to be expected. This is the best QB we have ever seen here and is one of the, if not the, most complete quarterbacks to ever play college football. It could be 10+ years before we see a qb on the level of Deshaun Watson playing anywhere in the country. A lot of people thought Cam Newton was a once in a lifetime qb and his poise and passing ability is no where near Deshauns. We will have plenty of elite QBs come through and we have several now but chances are we will never see a Quarterback as complete as Deshaun Watson.

Jamie Skalski looks promising as a kickoff specialist. He was a HS linebacker and soccer star. 10 blocking 11 will help the kick coverage.
Greg Huegel is a pretty good college kicker and is only a freshman. He'll only get better. Catanzaro was awful a freshman and is now in the NFL.

We almost did, and should have, win the game, and but for special teams lapses which had shown up all year long, we did whip them. Get that fixed, and this team is a tremendous obsticle for anybody. I hope we learned a lesson in that game. I pray we learned a lesson in that game. Fix special teams, and we are capable, no, I will even say we should be expected, to beat any team out there, even if we are not from the mighty secheat.

We better enjoy this last season with Watson.

He's in the CJ Spiller/Sammy Watkins category where we just won't see another one like him. I believe Watson is going to surpass some of his records, if not all from last year if he stays healthy. I know that will be a tall task but he spent all last offseason recovering from a torn ACL and it showed the first 2-3 games as he was a little bit rusty. We will also have a better offense this year than last and has the potential to be the best offense we have ever had while at Clemson. Can't wait for the season to start, go tigers!

He has never said this coming season would be his last season. He said that it depends if he completes his goals, and if the time was right.

"Goals" yes, he promised his mother he would graduate and he will graduate this December. Unless he (God forbid) gets injured this season he will be as good as gone. He will graduate in 2.5 yrs from college which shows the determination and will to succeed that young man has. We need to enjoy this last season.

Wait what?! Watson came in the game with over 3500 passing yards! What idiot thought he was a run first QB? That's Coot level stupid right there

closely actually think Watson is a running QB. I've seen it on message boards and heard it from some of my non-Clemson friends.

I heard from a lot of people here in north carolina who are bama fans heading into the game, that Watson was nothing short of a "glorified running back." I was like...just wait and see. Unfortunately the game didn't turn out as we had hoped, but those same bama fans were left speechless at his performance. All of them knew just how lucky they were to have won that game.

He followed Tajh Boyd, who was a runner who could sometimes complete passes to a future NFL receiving corps.
In all fairness, he did do a lot of running in the playoffs, but he was facing two good pass defenses without his two best receivers (Cain, Williams).

While I agree that Mack going down was a blow. Teams win or lose games. A team is the sum of all it's parts. When we play the if and but game, we all sound like Uncle Rico (or and Ohio State fan)

blown coverages in the 2nd half that resulted in touchdowns, we win the game by double digits.
If the entire team played the exact same way, and that one thing didn't happen.... we win.

It may be the "ifs and buts" game, but he's right. Mac would have prevented at least one--- if not more of those touchdowns--- and that would have been the game. But then again, we'll be hungrier ( hopefully) to go back and win it all this year

He reminds me of Montana
Feb 18, 2016, 6:01 PM

Watson's most valuable asset is his will to win. I would put him in the Brady or Montana league in that skill set. However, he has a better arm than Montana and a better runner than Brady. My 2 cents worth anyway...and his W-L record backs it up.

D4 getting that type of respect from a very good Bama DC Kirby Smart with mostly 5* recruits on his D, that says alot about DW4's skill as a duel threat QB. He couldn't get more respect than that, especially coming from a Bama coach running an Elite Defense full of Elite players.

I believe Deshaun played his best game all year against Alabama... I just reviewed the game against Fla St and saw a number of bad throws. He had several slow starts during the year, but came on strong the latter part of each of those game to win. Looking at his Alabama performance leaves little more to be desired, but during the year of developing, he had low and high points, always in that order. I think the new quarterback coach is greatly needed to help him work out those bugs in the early part of the year.

I have no idea why. DW4 will be in the NFL long before Smart gets UGA in the playoffs.
