Probably one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard from him. And I am a Christian. Talk about opening a can of worms and causing possible divisiveness. The media and social media will have a field day with this one…
I understand that he is a devout guy. And that he used his faith to help guide him while building the program. But to say the entire program is made in God’s image?? Wow.

It kind of felt like the noise about his stance on the portal might be getting on his nerves and he felt like he wanted to make his position crystal clear. Whether or not that was the best way to handle it is clearly debatable.

Having just watched it is different now for me than just reading about it. Seeing him say the words came across as sincere and not flippant. I didn't get the same sense seeing it that I did reading about it so I won't question the sincerity of it any longer.

become divisive? He's simply saying that the program follows the teachings of God and the Christian faith. I'm not particularly religious at all and have no problem with any leader of young men and women using God as a guide for their maturation, on and off the field, which, is the main thrust of his statement, beyond the field.

Dabo is basically suggesting Clemson is the most Christian or god fearing program. I don’t think Christians are supposed to rank and compare levels of holiness against one another.

Go back and read or listen to the comments from many of our recruits and current players that mention God and their faith and the role faith has in the Clemson program as part of the reason they chose Clemson. Dabo is reinforcing this position with the players that share similar beliefs. Have you heard an interview with Cade where he didn’t mention God?

What was dumb about Dabo’s comment? No man should ever be ashamed of his faith in God. His faith is what he models the football program after. Do you expect him to say, “ we want the best program, we need God as our guide but I’m a bit embarrassed to say it publicly”? College football needs more men like Coach Dabo. people's reactions of woke / worldy / secular nature should not determine your actions or principles. That's the mistake most make. "out of people's hearts come evil thoughts": Dabo is not responsible for their reaction, interpretation, or perversion of truth. A strong Christian true follower does not let culture affect him, but turns all that on its head, flips it. Or we'd have no Moses, Abraham, Deborah, Samson, Jesus, John the Baptist, Gideon, Jonathan, Ghandi, Churchill, and the list goes on. Why would Dabo care what everyone's reaction is, if he is sincere and lives what he believes? Even Forrest Gump had it right.

I certainly can see the argument that saying that your program is "made in God's image" and in His name and likeness is setting a high standard. But Hey - if "Best is the Standard" then you might as well go "All In" with what is considered the best, right? If our program is doing to be made in the best image it can be, following the best name it can be, and in the likeness of the best it can be - who, as a Christian, would you recommend that it be built in the name of, likeness of, and image of? Should it be built in the NIL of Dabo himself? Should it be built in the NIL of whoever the QB or top player is?
Let's break it down a little more... Dabo has always said (and for a large part shown) that he is a "player development" guy - and this means not only development as a football player, but also emotional and spiritual development. If Dabo is trying to get to "Best is the Standard" - then who should be the model for people to aspire to be like? The literal meaning of "Christian" is "little Christ" or "one in Christ" - if someone labels themselves as Christian, they are literally labeling themselves in the name, image, and likeness of Christ. Assuming a (majority of Christianity) belief that Christ and God are essentially the same thing, then labeling yourself as Christian is saying not only that you are made in the NIL of Christ, but also the NIL of God. It follows that Christians who believe that "Best is the Standard" should want reflect the NIL of God when they influence those around them. So, if Dabo and other Christians are leading the program, then saying that the program is built in the NIL of God should at the very least be an aspirational goal if not reality.
