that had a “USuCk mom” sticker on one side, and a “Maryland mom” sticker on the other. Made me shudder. Wonder what she must be like at dinner parties. Couldn’t even bring myself to look in the window when I passed.

enjoyed the story and fondly remember Tree playing for Clemson ... I lived in Raleigh at that time and had a letter published in the Raleigh news "ACC can't see the Tree for all the Forest." Correct me if I am wrong but I think I was angry that Tree was voted all ACC 2nd team by the ACC writers.

My mom worked with Tree's mom at Hamrick's in Gaffney. He walked in one day to see his mom wearing a "Tree" shirt. She is not one to overlook or understate the obvious.

"Tree, huh? You're big enough to be a tree."
"Yes, ma'am."
"You're awfully tall. How tall are you?"
"Seven foot one."
"Gosh that's tall. Have you ever played any basketball?"
"I've been known to play a little."

She comes home from work and says, "I met the largest man I've ever seen in my life today. He was wearing a shirt that said 'Tree'..."
I stop her. "Mom. That is Tree Rollins. He played at Clemson and currently plays for Atlanta." (I was wrong. He had just been released and signed as a free agent in Cleveland.)

She tells the rest of the story and then reveals he's the son of a coworker.

"Can we meet him then?" She works it out and I go to his mom's and he signs a card for me.

Him self promoting with the tire cover sounds just like Tree.
