I will always believe he bolted because of NIL.
Alabama bagmen couldn't keep up and he knew he wouldn't be able to load his teams anymore.

He basically said he bolted due to NIL. Last year the day after their loss he had several players come to his office asking how much he would pay them next year. He wanted no part of that.

Yea I’m for the NIL, but unfortunately this is not what is paying the stupid monies we are currently hearing about.
Seems strange that Beck will make more at Miami than Ewers, who could possibly be on an NFL roster.

The intent was never to buy players. It was to compensate players through schools fandom with signatures, jersey sales, Social Media popularity, doing some ads, etc. It was never intended to be, "Give me a $$million because I'm a 4* or I'm just going to highest bidder!" NCAA screwed the entirety of the NIL up buy sitting on their butts when they knew it was coming. They could have laid all the groundwork for an equitable and fair system but they delayed and put decisions in the hands of political idiots.

What did he need bagmen for? He was the greatest coach of all time. He coached at Bama.
Yea im sure some got paid, but no different than anywhere else.
He just saw the nightmare and destruction of the sport and got out

He definitely isn't going to like this. But anyone with a brain realizes this isn't a sustainable model regardless of what a court case says.

I agree with him. The model isn't sustainable. Something is going to need to change otherwise the top 25 is all there will be in college sports. Eventually the well is going to run dry.

It's funny how people are up in arms about Ohio State "buying players"

yet no one seemed to care when some schools spend hundreds of millions of dollars on facilities or tens of millions on coaching staffs while most other schools can't compete with that.
It's all a form of buying players and buying success. It's very much the haves versus the have-nots. It has been that way for a long time.
People need to stop being hypocrites.

Those facilities belong to the school and the coaches are employees. There is a slight difference for the time being. The Wisconsin lawsuit against Xavier Lucas will be interesting to watch. I've long said NIL may be the solution to the portal problem. If a school, collective or local business signs you to a Name, Image and Likeness deal, your name image and likeness is expected to be a factor in advertising etc in their market.

to have the things they feel they need to win football games.
Whether that is eye popping facilities, top coaches, player perks, or NIL, the objective is the same.
Nobody seemed to have an issue when we built over the top facilities, or paid our coaches top dollar. It was simply considered making a strong commitment to the program. And it didn’t matter that most other programs could never afford that.
But now that someone else is doing it, and it involves players, it’s considered “buying a championship.”
Hypocrites.

Bama had the best bagmen when Saban was there. If anything, the playing field is more level now that everyone can legally do what the SEC was already doing.

It’s not level but for about 10 schools and I’m afraid it is not even in the ballpark of said 10 schools (estimation) to the other 100 plus schools.
I will take Saban’s word for it. He knows a little bit about how and what is currently going on.

I love Dabo too, but until he wins 5 plus national championships I will or am reiterating who the media feels is the best.
