on the interview yesterday on ACC PM talking about defensive identity.
"I feel this is a group that needs to develop an identity and some confidence, the athleticism is there, the size is there. We've just got to do a tremendous job of matching our system with the strength of our players."
I think that's two big components we've missed since the days of Venables leadership, defensive identity, and developing player leaders on the defensive side. I expect Coach Allen will bring and develop that identity for defense, and it will build confidence and swagger using the strengths of our players, as he mentioned.
I believe this will result in player leaders stepping up on the defense, and having war daddy's out on the field being a motivating example for other players like we've seen in days past. It all starts from the DC, and works it's way down. Sounds to me like he knows what kind of identity he wants our defense to have, a plan to implement, and that's a good sign of a solid coordinator.
