Why? What are you gonna do if He is not? Of course He is worried about it. Far more than you. But what kind of stupid reporter asked that question at that time and expects anything other than the answer they got? And it was the correct answer!

I didn't expect him to say, "Yeah, we've got to get better as coaches or we've got to get better coaches."
The whole tone of his presser was about how big a hole they were in a half time and it was clear he was blaming the D for that hole.
I'm not in the coaches' room or meetings. I don't know how much of the blame Dabo places on the lack of talent of the players, the youth of the players, the injuries or the coaches. That's his job to figure it out.
But, I am struck by these two thoughts:
1. It would not surprise me if there was a different DC in the next 30 days.
2. TX ran the ball amazingly well. How much blame does Eason deserve for that? Why does he seem to be getting a pass? His title includes "defensive run game coordinator." Just wondering.
I have no idea what the solution is. But, that's not my job. That's Dabo's.

My two cents.... We lost several db prospects, probably because of nil. We haven't landed the plethora of top defensive prospects recently. There was a point where we landed the top, or top 10, player each year. If revenue sharing happens, we should land more of these prospects.
Defense was horrible for the amount of talent we have. Woods is out of position repeatedly. So are the lb's. They get hung up on blocks. I'm just stating the obvious. Dabo has changed coaches when it was time. He is notorious for giving coaches and players every opportunity to prove themselves, but he has made changes when necessary.

I agree Bret. The question had to be asked. I did like hearing him say we had to get better everywhere. We got a first round qb. We've got a great start to wide receivers. Our oline is miles better than last year, especially with the injuries and players we have.
We do have a new DE coach. We have a deep DL but imo, not an elite dline as most have preached on T-Net all year. Pwoo and Parker are elite but we've gotten beat all year not setting the edge. The only teams we played with a pulse, we were poor getting off blocks and being gap integrity. We were playing against an average qb today that we knew wasn't as mobile as DJ5. That's coaching.
Sammy's great but it's a problem when he has to be your leading tackler. Our safeties are meh.
As for running backs. Looks like we missed not moving Randall as our 2nd back.
A lot of us on T-Net begged Dabo to take a transfer edge rusher, linebacker, and cb last January to shore up experience. His direct quote was, we like who we have on our roster. ??.

Dabo was good with who we had personnel wise last year and I suspect that he will be good with the staff this year. Though I think that we could have improved the personnel last year, I do not think that is the major issue. We lack depth but the studs that we have, looked bad in a lot of situations this year.
Up until this year, I thought that Reed did not get near enough credit, but to me our DB's regressed from last year. I had questions with other defensive coaches, but I was cautiously optimistic and believe that the rest of the defense has regressed beyond position changes as well. Now, I am at the point that I may not be intelligent enough to know what the problem is, but I am observant enough to know that there is one. This defense was bad all season by our standards, and if you look at the guys on the field one by one it should not have been.
Whether it is one, some or all of the defensive coaches something needs to change. Dabo is loyal to a fault and many of the ones on here are just as loyal to Dabo. Tyler from Spartanburg was trashed nonstop, but Dabo has responded by doing some of the things that Tyler was outrageous to suggest. Dabo has earned the right to do what he wants, but if he does nothing like I fear, I believe that it will be a mistake.

Great post CGA. I watched a lot of football this year, as I always do, and comparing the elite programs to ours there were a lot of things that popped out defensively. I was really disappointed that none of our linebackers, even Sammy at times, were unable to shed blocks. I like fast linebackers, but in addition to that they have to be strong enough to take on linemen and shed their blocks. The don't necessarily have to be able to overpower them line a D lineman, but their quickness and strength have to work together to get free and make plays. Yesterday's game was a textbook example of them not doing it. I think both Carter and Woodazz actually regressed this year ....... although I hate to say it. I think both have NFL talent, but not the way they played this year. Guessing they both will be late round of UDFAs.
Our D-line, particularly on the edge, but also in the middle was sorely lacking. Week after week I got tired of seeing mediocre and bad teams run wide on us. It was not only or DEs but also lack of support from our linebackers, corners and safeties. And finally, although our D backs played well at times, they seemed to regress as the year went on. The three holding calls on Terrell were all legitimate, even if the refs seemed to ignore the same handsy play for the Texas D backs, especially on Moore. Terrell was grabbing on just about every play.
All is all, I would say our poor defensive play was pretty much a team effort. I do not know the answer, but we have not found it yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did fire Wes, though. It wasn't just Texas who gashed Clemson in the running game.
They are not going to win many championships with a 70th-ranked defense.

I expect that Dabo will ask around a little, but I am not sure that he finds someone touted as much as Riley was that would be interested. I think there were only 2 or 3 people that Dabo would have traded Streeter for. My guess is that none of the DC's that Dabo would be willing to trade for are available.

Dabo always has a list of coaches. He does a lot of networking. I believe this was coach speak for ... I need to get my head around this, but changes are coming. We have a lot of talent on dline, yet we were horrible vs the run. Texas beat us because they could run. I imagine Dabo's going to fix this

We've got the players. But the players aren't in position to make plays. It's chaos on D. Any good play feels like we had divine intervention. The experiment is over.

Let's not start eliminating roster management from the responsibility of position coaches. I know it's the pumper narrative, it was the same for Streeter, Austin, etc.

Lots of teams with less talent on defense are ranked way above 70, so stop with the BS.

Dabo is a professional. He's not going to embarrass those men. He will have a private meeting. They will discuss the situation. He will analyze and have a plan.
It doesn't happen in front of people. That just doesn't happen...even when we get embarrassed by wvu.
