Going to be a hot week.

Us elderly are able to deal with it poorly. We tend to be fat and out of shape. That is part of it, but not all of it. "Old age" is a big part of not dealing well with heat.

I get up early to get my many yard chores done. The rest of the day, any effort raises my heart beat to 300, so I rest often. I still sit outside as always to enjoy my critters at 100 (right now it is just 96). I adjust and keep the beer at 30degrees.

Once upon a time in July I raced Marathons. We all lined up at afternoon races at 100 and went all out.
Oakboro comes to mind. You had to bring your "A" game there for 100degrees or friends would embarrass you.

We were in no danger. I trained every hot afternoon with friends in the park. Heat slows all, but we adjusted.
Folks like Marty Gass, George Walker, Harry Ash, and "the girls" would be there to work no matter the temp. Former Clemson great Steve Seaborn would be there.
The Summer Track races would make you work. Racing the mile at 100degrees will test you.

Last Summer while living in a tent behind the Anderson methadone clinic with nothing to do kinda got in shape. I set course records at several races in SC/Ga. Heat was killing my old fat ###, but slowing the others too.

Right now walking to the mailbox is a chore. I am sitting on my ### this Summer.
I intend to loose 50 pounds and crank up again in late Spring to fight off becoming 80. I will need a year to become competitive.

Right now just enjoying my new home and my great life. I have again been blessed.

At least you have the right attitude. And at 80, that is what keeps you going.

No, but often raced in Anderson and in other places against the best of yall. Some great racers in that area.

Anderson Midnight Flight used to bring in the best from the SE. At 45 ran 16:50 there on a hot humid night and lost by a step to Clemson Professor Gary Carner.

This oldster (76) is out every day moving dirt. Actually it is mostly rock; we are hand digging the neighbor’s new sunroom addition. When finished it will be 8’ deep and 8’x28’.

In March I moved 6 buckets each day. Now I move 10 per day and that is enough. I feel good. Later today we are to be at 100 degrees - Montana.
