We dominated the entire forst half and they dominated the entire second half. We ended up winning by one point. It was a very strange game.

1986 Gator Bowl. Jack Elway was their coach. John's last season was 1982. Ed McCaffrey (Christian's father) was on the team, but he was a freshman and didn't play much that year.

I think we got a pick in the end zone late to seal it. Huge lead and basically sat on it all second half.

Gator Bowl in Jacksonville. Was still undergrad at Clemson and went with then-girlfriend and was completely unprepared for the turn the weather took and sweatshirts were sold out before I thought to try to buy some. Seats were in the top row, too, so that wind was blowing. The parachuters in pregame almost didn't jump due to low ceiling, one didn't make it and had to back off and landed in the parking lot, another barely cleared the stadium wall and we could have almost touched him as he went overhead. Glad we won that!

I remember their flag landed outside the stadium and ours was in. 16 year old me thought that was a good sign. Had forgotten about the weather change. And man that stadium was rickety.

First bowl game with my then girlfriend, now wife for 36+ years. Cloudy/foggy day as I recall. 10 years later, I’m in business school with one of the Stanford players who played in that game.

It was 27-21 and I remember it like yesterday as I was sitting in a booth with Shawn Weatherly. Before the game we made a wagering board with 100 squares at $5 a square. I had the square with Clemson 7 and Stanford 1. It was 27 - 14 and I was pulling like crazy for Stanford to score. They had that big running back Brad _____, and with a little time left they scored. I took home the final payout of $250. Not a bad day at the office!

I was there... senior year in Tiger Band. The band stayed all the way down in Daytona Beach for some reason. It was cool and windy there too. Great Tiger win! Let's make it 2-0!
