Primarily a special teams player, but got a little game time at TE.
I went to his grandfather's visitation this afternoon, Jimmy Williams. Jimmy passed away at the age of 86 after declining due to dementia.
Garrett's father was Dayne Williams, who played FB at FSU in the late 80s.

He played a good bit and had a big impact in our running game. Sorry for his grandfather's passing. Thanks for letting us know Bretfsu!

Looks like he played a fair amount his senior year, but only caught a couple of passes. I assumed he didn't play much.

He was a good kid, tough. I think his only TD was at FSU. It was a special moment for him and his dad, if my memory is right.
Actually he scored on a run as a fullback at FSU to honor his dad.

I did not remember that.

Thanks. If I had remembered that, I sure would have told him yesterday. There is a story behind his dad and TDs. He had 15 rushing TDs in one year. Set a school record which may still stand. I just walked up to his dad yesterday and said, "You don't know me, but I know you. 34-Wham." He immediately knew what I was talking about. (34-wham was the play and it was as unstoppable that year as the Tush Push is in Philly this year.)

I've been watching replays of past years' games, and Garrett Williams played a lot of football for our Tigers. He didn't get much pub being a blocking TE but was an important cog in our offense. He might have been the best blocking TE we have ever had.

Always said he was unsung part of those teams. His blocking was legendary.

He was really more of an H-back or hybrid tight end. He wasn't a pass catcher but a terrific blocker.

He was high school sweethearts with a girl on the Clemson volleyball team at the time.
If I remember correctly, he went into the Marine Corps after graduating didn't he?

But, he introduced me to his wife and told me she was a cheerleader at Clemson.

I think he had another year of eligibility but chose to go to OCS in the Marine Corps. As a former Marine officer, I was happy to see him make that choice .... but sad as a Tiger football fan. Curious if he is going to make the Marine Corps a career.
