Garrett vs Dabo Offenses

Does anybody else on here believe that finally letting Garrett Riley really be the Offensive Coordinator and call the offense is one of the huge differences between this year and last? I certainly see a much different performance vs past years. The other huge difference is Matt Luke, our new OL coach. Our OL is definitely doing a great job, and it shows. JMO. Interested to hear other thoughts.

I think it is. I think Garrett was calling the offense last year too, but was limited on what we could successfully run and Dabo knew that. OL was bad, we had a young QB learning a new system, and he had no receivers to throw to. I think most of our improved offensive play is a result of our improved OL and receiver core. Plus Cade is blossoming as a leader and player so they're able to really open up the play book now. Just my 2 sents

While I still think the OL has a good bit of improvement to do, I believe we finally have the right guy for the job. The WRs certainly appear much improved as well. Cade never forgot how to play, he just didn't get a lot of support and often tried to do too much.

Having Luke makes a difference, but GR is calling different plays than we have seen in the past. He is not rotating through the same Dabo’s Clemson plays on offense. He is mixing them up better, until the subs get in. The backup qbs need to run the offense with the ones for a series or two.

You know how I know this whole "Dabo isn't calling the plays anymore" argument falls flat?
As soon as the Clemson offense sputters again, people will claim that just like magic, Dabo has taken back the offense
There is no consistency. It seems that when the offense play well, Dabo has relinquished the keys and when they play bad, he takes them back
It's silly

It sure is Silly. Facts are that our offensive line did not allow Garrett to call some of the plays he is able to call now. The improvement to our OL is one of the differences, along with the additions of Wesco and Moore and other receivers being healthy. Also least we all forget that Cade has grown a lot and able to prove his five star rating was legit. Great post.

We didn't have time last year to take all of the deep shots that we are taking

this year. The relentless deep ball attacks of this offense have backed defenses off and really opened everything up for our offense.

like the past 3 years. And when they do call it, it actually works as intended. WE're throwing it down field and loosening up defenses so they can't sit and stifle our run game so easily. Now at the same time we have a limited sample set of games to go off here and defenses will eventually scout this stuff out but i like how we're looking like we're back to calling a normal playsheet on offense again.

3 things:
Cade growing up and playing better with more confidence as he gains more experience. The deep ball is back and we are finally finding the middle of the field. Cade still focuses too much on his primary receiver but he is starting to get through his reads/progressions and doing a better job of simply finding the open spots in the zone. The scary thing is he can still get a lot better which is great for us.
OL playing much better... Luke doing a great job coaching and the guys are responding and developing.
WRs are finally getting separation and we have some speed that has been missing for a few years. Also getting some good play from the TEs. Like Cade, they will also continue to get better as the season progresses.

Matt Luke absolutely is one of the biggest difference makers.
Dabo did not run the offense last year. This is the biggest Myth.
This is all about players. Cade has improved, OL has improved, we have two great freshman WR that are getting better every day, Mafah is Mafah.
Now that the players have put it together Riley can get into his bag. Last year nothing was clicking so we had to play it safe and call very vanilla games. Look at FSU. You think Norvell forgot how to call an offensive? No. He just doesn’t have the players.
Yall got to get this Dabo and the offense nonsense out of your head.

Ummm, Garrett called the offense last year too, not Dabo. He just did not have all of the talent and development he has this year. The team this year is in a much better position to run his offense. That is the difference.

Not I. Dabo does not pay Riley $2 million a year to be a puppet. Why you kids cannot understand that there is a night and day different between, Georgia and App St, NC State and Stanford is just mind boggling. The other factor is another month of work by Coach Luke with the OL who is making progress.

Garrett is running the offense. He can only run plays that the players are capable of executing. Looks like he has found some guys who can run his type offense.

This needs to be put to bed once and for all.
A LOT of the issues on offense last year had to do with a) available personnel at WR position and b) poor OL play and c) a new offensive system with a young QB
Dabo recruited some serious talent at WR and went out and got the best OL coach in the business.
I believe Dabo/Garret intentionally tried to keep things simple for the reasons listed above. This year, the infusion of new talent, a QB who is confident in the new scheme and new O Line coaching is bearing fruit.
And yes, Dabo isn't walking around with the Waffle House menu lately. That is also true.

This has been posted a dozen times and is still a silly myth for all the common sense reasons listed by others in this thread. Wondering when we can move past it and argue about a different topic which might be true?
