Yeah the VAST majority are safe and also effective long after expiration. There are a few drugs, not really used much these days, that can become "dangerous" with time but that is a very short list. I hang onto extra rx's long after dates just as an "in case"

Used to be (may still be there) a company in Greenville that took in "expired" Nutritional Supplements, Vitamins, and OTC drugs. They washed or buffed to name off of the pill, then repackaged them as a generic...and with the blessings of FDA were able to up the "expired" date another 3-5 years.
The theory of FDA was that the product had been re-inspected.

With me I really don't care. I'll use drugs well after their expiration dates, but with my family members I won't take the chance.

Bourbon, scotch, rum, gin, vodka, etc. are the same. I'll use 'em long after I open. But usually no worries cause they don't last very long anyway.

I had a customer that the government told to put expiration dates on cylinders of Helium and Oxygen. So, monthly, I printed out labels with random expiration dates that he could place on his cylinders....

I think that would depend on the drug, and some drugs can be deadly after they expire.

I would not take an antibiotic that's expired. I know a lot of dummies that will just take 1 or 2 then start feeling a little better and then stop without completing the full course so I'm sure there are lots of partial bottles in medicine cabinets out there.
