FSU flips 5 star from UGA

Landen Thomas 5 star TE.

Mike Norvell’s completely turned around FSU’s recruiting by now. But for you FSU fans, y’all should know that simply loading your roster with 5-stars doesn’t promise you anything. Miami’s had 5 stars for years but is a joke. Texas is a joke. Georgia was a joke with Richt and he constantly brought in top classes.

I’m not rooting against the seminoles mostly. I want them to resurge. There are no divisions anymore, so we don’t HAVE to beat them the first time we play them to make it to the ACC Championship. Not saying we’ll lose to them.

With the portal and NIL now, coaches are immediately transforming their teams. Obvious example TCU. We’ll see what kind of coach Norvell really is now that he’s got everything to use.

You don't win a natty or even get to the CFP without TALENT. Yes, bad coaching top talent can lead to losing. But even with good coaching, if you don't have the talent, you "ain't" getting to the natty.

If Clemson doesn't start getting the top talent at every position, esp. WR, we can forget another natty.

The Tigers will climb the mountain again. Time will tell how long we have to wait. Long drought of not being great, on a national stage, in the 90s and 2000s (outside of the team winning 1 conference title in the early 90s) before Swinney. Lord knows I don’t wanna revert back to those troubling times, but we had moments to celebrate. I’ve listed a few below. Feel free to list some moments of celebration for the Tigers if you’d like.

1. 2000 was a great start but we didn’t finish well.

2. 2003 was a season fans celebrated (63-17 over coots and whipped Tennessee in the Peach Bowl) and we didn’t even have double digit wins. Think we finished 9-4.

3. 2006 we started off hot with Thunder and Lightning but fizzled out without a quality QB.

4. 2009 Swinney led us back to the ACC Championship game where we lost to GT.

2003 beat #3 FSU at home I believe. Bowden Bowl.

There were plenty of things that made me happy during the 2000s. All of the CJ Spiller moments. The win at Miami in OT with Parker. I was still growing up so I’d never seen us win a national championship. 2011 was the 8-0 start with Tajh Boyd. I remember that day of the GT game to make us 8-1, Tajh Boyd was a front runner for the Heisman. It leveled out until 2015. Then the rest.

2003 against FSU at home is still the best home game I’ve ever been to. It was chaos on the field afterwards with both goal post being torn down! Notre Dame in the rain is a very close second.

Never forget.

2009 Christian Ponder FSU game great too. McDaniels’ INT was one of the best and loudest moments I remember.

Also…FSU at home in 2011. After we’d beaten Auburn. The 3rd down sack at end of game was very very loud.

Completely Absurd

Apr 18, 2023, 2:47 PM [ in reply to Re: FSU flips 5 star from UGA ]

I think it's funny that whenever Clemson loses it's apparently because of there's a lack "talent". In any sport, like clockwork.

The same people always scream the loudest. They typically have short term memories, lack perspective, and don't fully understand what it takes to consistently win.

If your opinion is that Clemson had more talent on the roster all those years from 2014-2019 then fine. But if we're talking actual recruiting rankings and actual roster talent Clemson IS, and HAS BEEN MORE TALENTED over the last 2-3 seasons.

It's always about the coaching. Talent development is critical, as is recruiting. But Clemson's WR talent is the envy of 95% of the nation. They haven't properly developed WR's, but that has nothing to do with talent. Statistically, it's impossible to miss on that many Blue Chip WR's so it points to coaching.

Remember when Dabo was winning games and ACC Championships with Tommy Bowden's players? How the heck did that happen...lol? Tommy sure couldn't, and most Clemson fans prior to his firing were screaming that "we don't have enough talent". Wonder if you think Tommy could have won 2 NC's with Dabo's rosters???? I'll answer that...NO.

If we're not in the CFP and competing for Championships it's not because we lack talent. Last I checked several top-tier WRs rolled through Clemson football never living up to expectations and barely making a peep in the stat column. That ain't a talent problem. That's a coaching and player development issue.

Is your solution really just switching rosters with 'Bama every year? I wonder how Nick Saban feels about that? How the heck did Dabo ever beat him in the first place btw?

Just saying, what's ailed Clemson the last 2 seasons can be attributed to injuries, and coaching. Specifically injuries, and poor coaching on the offensive side of the ball.

But claiming that Clemson lacks the talent to win, and win championships now completely absurd.

Thank you exceedingly for pointing these things out. I have been screaming it to anyone who will listen over the past year that these last couple of years, according to recruiting services rankings, have been our most talented teams ever. We won the two nattys with less talent. I’m not saying that these recruits have lived up to expectations or done as well as a bunch of our players did during our run, but again when looking at recruiting rankings and star power the last several years have been our most talented teams on paper. Not on the field obviously, but on paper and judging off recruiting rankings.

Georgia was a joke with Richt??
He may not have won a NC, but under Richt, Georgia had the 6th best winning percentage in all of Power 5. So there must have been a lot of jokes out there coaching.
And he never once had the top (#1) class. He never had a consensus top 5 class, or even the top class in the SEC. And Miami, Texas, or FSU usually had higher ranked classes, but he won at a higher clip than all of them.

Couple things to say here. I’m against Georgia and don’t like them. And want to beat them. And want them to lose. Just competition and how it is.

Anyways, in my opinion regarding Richt as a coach (not him as a person), he was obviously a good coach. Weird analogy, but he’s the Phillip Rivers of CFB coaches. Always good, but never won ####. I love him as a person. But just saying, y’all should’ve done more with him. And y’all thought each year was it, when it ended in the same result.

Y’all should feel complemented. I’m basically saying y’all’s standard is high and it was not met.

P.S. Smart isn’t Swinney. Just like to remind you. Get to 6 straight playoffs, and we’ll talk.

A joke in comparison to what y’all always thought y’all were. Georgia fans think they own this region of football. Of course right now they do, but the best thing Richt ever did was win a couple conference champs and some Sugar Bowls. I’ll mediocre not a joke.

But y’all had mostly top-10 recruiting classes. Y’all always screwed up in the biggest moments. I remember most the Aaron Murray loss vs Bama in the SEC Championship. Georgia would’ve played in the NC.

Yeah it kind of happened because people actually paid attention to us. Remember like when we were building our program slowly. Slowly until the point we won 7 straight ACC Championships and 6 straight playoff.

Also, if you didn’t know, people just despise Clemson and their ways of doing things. The media likes to put us on blast at the drop of a pen. I know they do.

The media is controlled by people who don’t support what Dabo has been open about in the past. Won’t say they’re all liberal because it’s stereotypical, and too political as I don’t really get into all that. But you know. Say I’m crazy, but it’s just obvious people like to screw with us and our reputation.

Dude, are you trying to be serious here?
I mean "in comparison to what y’all always thought y’all were"? What does that even mean?
"The best he ever did" was win the SEC and a couple Sugar Bowls? Really? The guy won just about everything short of a natty. Mediocre?!?! Yeah right.
And in 15 seasons, Richt had 8 consensus top 10 recruiting classes - about half. Not sure if that counts as "mostly" or not, but Florida, Tennessee and/or Auburn nearly always had higher ranked classes. And that Bama team you mention had back to back #1 classes and 4 in 5 years, with the one outlier being ranked #4. They were the defending National Champions and were solid favorites. Richt's team did not have the talent on that Bama roster.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FSU flips 5 star from UGA

Apr 18, 2023, 6:05 PM

Well what do you want me to call him??

He wasn’t elite nor great, so I’ll go with good. I called him mediocre because I considered y’all’s standard to be National Championship appearances. He never went once.

I also stated in the original post that loading your team with top 5-stars doesn’t always produce results. Look at Texas A$M as an obvious example. Richt just got beat out by Saban every time they played a big game.

Really love remembering that time they played at UGA in 2008 and y’all were ranked above them at #3. Y’all obviously thought y’all would win and it was y’all’s “year”. They led 31-zip at the half😂.

So yeah, he was good, but nothing more.

Re: FSU flips 5 star from UGA

Apr 18, 2023, 4:59 PM

That's not really accurate. Georgia fans rarely if ever say he didn't have top 10 classes, because he did. Most of his classes were ranked in the 8-12 range. But therein lies the problem. A top 10 class may sound good to many Clemson fans, but it doesn't cut it in the SEC. To consistently compete for and win the SEC, you have to mostly have top 3 or top 5 level recruiting classes. Richt never met that mark, and that's ultimately why he was let go. He was universally loved and respected among the Georgia fanbase - which is why it was such a difficult decision.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Lol, that narrative doesn't fair so well in 2016 and 2018.
