Sure. No conference would want Clemson. Rolls eyes. What are you basing this opinion on? You must rub elbows with the B1G commissioner and B1G athletic directors. Who would want to add the second best team in football since the advent of the college football playoff? Who would want to add a storied baseball program trending towards Omaha? A basketball team fresh off an elite 8 run? Yeah. Makes total sense. Especially considering Clemson sports pull viewers. That’s a recipe for disaster.

There are a handful of teams that ANY conference would take without discussion. Unless they were afraid of adding such a powerhouse. FSU is closer to the bottom of that list. Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, Notre Dame, Clemson, USC Trojans, Alabama, Penn State, and MAYBE FSU.

Notre Dame isn’t going to join any conference. Why would they? They make more than enough off their exclusivity football deals to need a conference. They get the best of both worlds, they get to compete in a power four conference in all other sports. Why buy the cow when the milk is free?

I don’t understand this incredible “need” to bail on the ACC. Sure, the money deal is a glaring issue. However, that gap closed significantly in 2023-24 season. Renegotiating makes more sense. Equal pay would make things better.

The ACC is no slouch conference. The ACC has won their fair share of National Championships in all sports. The PAC12 are the kings and queens of combined (All sports) National Championships (NC) and it isn’t even close. New ACC member Stanford tops the the list. The Big 12 is second in combined NC all time. The almighty SEC only has one team in the top ten. The ACC has two.

The grass is always greener on the other side. I don’t see the appeal of one or two super conferences. Rivalries pay the ultimate price. Regional rivalries will slowly die out.

All that said, it really doesn’t matter. NCAA sports are ruined as we know them. I watch pro sports because they are on TV. I attend NCAA sports because I’m passionate. We now only have varying levels of pro sports. Soon you will see sponsors names on helmets and jerseys. I’m just not excited about the direction. I’m not a fan of jumping conferences. I don’t fear playing against any team. Cheer the death of the ACC at your own risk. Be careful what you wish for.

Wins and losses don't mean anything in a media driven sports world. In 1994 it mattered, but in 2024 it doesn't. That said, Clemson is an attractive but not preferred candidate to the Big 10. When people say the SEC doesn't want Clemson and FSU they are right, but they would take them if they had to in order to stay relevant as a conference. Clemson and FSU add zero new viewers in states that already have a strong SEC presence. However they do bring an entire set of new viewers to a conference (Big 10) with zero presence in those respective states, but so does UNC and UVA. It appears more and more likely that this situation is not Big 10 vs SEC as we have been lead to believe based on the buddy buddy mutual cooperation in terms of the playoff. The most likely scenario is the SEC and Big 10 split teams from a broken up ACC with each conference getting their picks based on mutual benefit. Thus putting Clemson and FSU in the Big 10 and the SEC with Some combination of UNC, Duke, NC State, or UVA which adds new viewers in states they don't have a presence in. Adding value to both conferences/ media groups and thus improving the shared pay out.
