Franklin brings Dwight Galt with him
Jan 12, 2014, 2:02 PM
|
|
Craig Fitzgerald is now out of a job. For those not in the know Galt was the long time strength coach at Maryland and followed Franklin to Vanderbilt, the turn around in basic areas was immediate in just one spring training session . Galt also was the man that instructed Friedgen on how to play Clemson " you just hit them in the mouth and they'll quit". Fitzgerald on the other hand was the man Steve Spurrier brought to the Gamecocks in the same year John Hunt was fired as the offensive line coach and Shaun Elliot was brought in. The two key components in the Gamecocks 5 straight victories over Clemson . Fitzgerald in one season made the Gamecocks bigger, stronger and faster than Clemson with consistently lower ranked recruiting classes. Fitzgerald needs a job and I can think of the perfect place for him.

I mean theyre bigger places and more money to make than Clemson, and none of the people that trained under him have escalated above him so whats the deal? He is the last hold out from the Tommy West years so stregth and conditioning hasnt evolved in that many years ? Or hes so good but so committed to Clemson that he doesnt want to leave but no one has offered a better job?

single Batson out as making such a difference in his endurance and staying healthy at his goodbye presser? Pretty high praise in my book. Dabo and coaches have been around many different S&C coaches and they have no problem which solidifies the job he is doing.

What position group do you feel is not properly conditioned
Jan 12, 2014, 3:24 PM
|
|
Are you referring to our QB, who was used as a short yardage battering ram and rarely missed a play?
Are you referring to our WR's who consistently out ran players in the 4th quarter?
Are you referring to our D-Line, where our tackles consistently stopped the run up the middle and our D-Ends consistently made it to the Q.B.?
Are you referring to our O-Line, which was able to keep up with our fast paced offense. Specifically, Brandon Thomas and Norton, who never came off the field, despite the number of snaps we run?
Are you referring to our LB's who pretty much decimated the O.S.U. offensive line and running backs?

get stripped of the ball, Seckinger against FSU while your at it. Good programs dont lose those balls . Secondly S&C coach is the only one with year round access to the players and we are obviously breaking down mentally in big games . The S&C coach can improve the mental toughness by pushing them to failure everyday and demanding that they improve regardless. Our players quit far too often and it can be corrected.

Don't think so...

Our losses since we have hired competent coordinators shows otherwise. Loss against FSU in '12 was a matter of learning curve for Venables system and trying to undo bad tendencies and poor instincts taught under Steele, USC a mixture of questionable play calling and 3rd down defense, FSU this year a mixture of playing the best team in the country and poor decision making from Tajh and USC well...nothing weight lifting can do to teach you how to catch a punt or keep ball out of Sammy's hands throwing it. Wins against LSU, Georgia, and Ohio state displayed physical dominance on our part. Continued progress of defense is evidence that our most recent losses weren't an issue of physically being blown off the ball but unfamiliarity with scheme.

dominance against LSU .Our oline had Tajh running for his life for 3.5 quarters of that game. Georgia has proven not to be so good throughout the year and OhioSt was missing 4 key players and we were on the ropes until they muffed a kick. Show me a meaningful win against a healthy dominant team ?

I'm going to treat your argument as a legitimate one. Defensive statistics vs. LSU - 219 total yards, under 100 yards rushing, 6 sacks, 8 three-and-outs. No other team performed this well against LSU all year long, including Alabama. As for Tajh running for his life, who wasn't against LSU in 2012? They had what, 8 draft picks on that side of the ball that year alone? We still tallied 445 yards despite two turnovers, success I'm not sure many teams had against that D. As for Georgia "not being very good throughout the year" was questionable. They seemed to be sitting awfully pretty after their big wins against SCAR and LSU but injuries and close losses can be demoralizing to any team. Ohio State, as LSU, wasn't as close as score indicated. All-time high of 16 penalties and a critical bad decision by Tajh to lob it to Sammy kept that game from being a blowout. Yes, Clemson losses have not always been "pretty" if there is such a thing but if you are going to criticize us for being soft when we lose you must give credit for being physical when we beat a quality opponent.
