or sunshine pumper, whichever you think applies. Or both.

Some come on here and cop the "WE TOLD Y'ALL" attitude after every Clemson loss and in many cases, DURING every Clemson loss and in still other cases, before, during and after every Clemson WIN.

But here's the thing: it's two sides of the same coin.

Of course this Clemson team is not going to climb the mountaintop in their present reduced state. But that does not mean they aren't a year away, or two or three.

Of course we watched them miss tackles and kick horrific punts and do all the things we wish they wouldn't do yesterday in DKR.

But I tell you, they kept coming back and showing flashes of brilliance. Like when you tune in the radio and catch flashes of Led Zeppelin -- you keep fine-tuning until it's dialed-in and then turn up the volume.

That's this Clemson team. Flashes of Zeppelin. Just needs a little fine-tuning.

But what we optimists don't feel entitled to do is, from the cheapest seats possible (anonymously, online), publicly snipe at every wrinkle, every imperfection, we see.

Instead, we believe Dabo Swinney, who is not immortal and yes, is very well paid, is probably the best coach to do what we believe needs doing. And history is probably on our side in that regard.

HTH. Go Tigers.
Merry Christmas.

Playing a hurt Mafah for a month was the right call?

Sitting DW and Trevor on the bench behind lesser talent was the right call?

I get that he’s trying to reward upper classmen but sometimes it’s to the detriment of the team. He literally cost us valuable RB experience this year just trying to get Mafah to 1000 yards. The rules are different now, talent isn’t going to sit around and hope to play some day.

But I have a pretty good idea that if he had played Wesco and Moore in the opener, or started DW or TL over more experienced players, or if he had sat Mafah instead of playing him, that you'd be on here b*tching about it how he shouldn't have played Wesco and Moore, or started DW or TL, or stuck with Mafah despite being hurt.

Because fans like you are always less interested in the 100 things that went right than you are in the three or four things that went wrong.

He did that and won national championships! So it’s a problem now that we are not? A national championship isn’t realistic every single year. There are 128 teams that compete for the national championship every year. There are only 2 active coaches that have won it. That’s how hard it is. This team we had this year was only 2 or 3 pieces away.

I think he is correct about 2 or 3 more pieces. 1 more elite DE, 1 more elite LB, and if went for 3 perhaps a good punter. So I wouldn't say way more than 2 or 3 players. With that you probably don't lose to SC, GA still a loss, but so early in the season it wouldn't have mattered. Play Lou better but maybe we still lose. And give Texas a much better game. Even without that we still got to the playoffs. That can't be argued. We were there.

The problem is the experiment didn’t work. He tried to promote from within as something different than what got him to the top. He went out and hired the best position coaches and coordinators money could buy. It worked well. Fast forward to where he starts bringing in ex players and promoting GA or analyst to big time roles. This isn’t a coaching developmental league. It’s a results league. I’m not happy losing four games a year. No one is. That’s Bowden territory.

So, no thank you. I don’t want a participation trophy. I want to kick down the door and take it all (Natty). Applauding something that sporadically works is a bad look. It’s like saying my truck is great it only breaks down 20% of the time. That means somethings wrong. Gotta fix it. Fine running Wes Goodwin and the coaching deficiencies will take years. Again, no thank you.

Yes, it’s great to be a Tiger and we played our hearts out on offense while Texas just ran another long TD as I type his. We proved we are pretty good. Just not good enough. That may be good enough for you, it isn’t for me. If Goodwin was my investment guy he’d have been fired three years ago.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. What I can agree with is that regardless of view, we all love Clemson. Well, most of us.

I feel like there are times that he criticizes the fan base because we don't applaud everything, despite my view that much of it is coach speak that he doesn't even believe.

What gets to me is that many peopke on this board are so critical of so many coaches and players and just give Dabo a pass. Happens all the time. And when someone points out Dabo’s big role in it all they are called coots and such. I was new to the board when we promoted Streeter and Wes and some were skeptical and boy were they right. I truly believe Dabos greatest attribute is not his tactical acumen or coaching prowess, his greatest talent is identifying the right people to put in the right spots and then serving as a figurehead. At our pinnacle, he nailed this approach. Currently, he has missed on several hires in my opinion. Streeter, Spiller, and Wes hVe all proven to be underwhelming. The jury is out on Grisham/Riley. How do we have so many talented RBs and yet none are actually capable of meaningful snaps? We have to play a backup WR at RB or play a player completely unable to contribute due to injury? I believe Venables covered for a lot of the coaching deficiencies of Dabo, as did the team of Scott/Elliott. Dabo is at his best as a manager, leader, and administrator. This coupled with his slowly evolving mentality on NIL and the portal have lead to our decline. Big picture, 4 wins for 11million a year isnt a good season.

That they didn't win enough games to suit you, or didn't win those games in a way that passes your eye test, is probably not something that comes up when he sits down to talk with his bosses about his future employment status.

10 wins in The ACC is an empty accomplishment. The fact we had an 0-3 record against the SEC this year proves our record is smoke and mirrors. If the ACC continues with it's current trajectory, it's only a matter of time before the BIG10/SEC negotiate to get rid of auto bids for conference champs as a maneuver to place more of their teams in the playoff. If best is the standard losing to Louisville, SC, 0-3 to the SEC, and an incredibly underwhelming recruiting effort is not living up to that standard. Do I want Dabo gone...no. However, to say the problems with this program aren't many and prevalent is absurd. Our LB depth next year will be even worse, we're pinning our hopes on a Wr convert at RB, and if Cade opts out our offense is really toast. This doesn't even take into account the huge elephant in the room that is the failed project of Wes at DC. The sky is not falling, but neither is Dabo infallible. We lucked our way into the playoffs with help from Syracuse, beat a decent but not great SMU team, and got shown we aren't close to elite by Texas. Changes need to be made.

We got our playoff spot due to winning the ACC, not our Strength of Schedule or Record. Heck, SMU was even granted a higher seed than us even tbough we beat them and won the conference title. This speaks volumes to the fact that the committee considered us the weakest of the 12 teams. How about the fact that Boise St was given a bye week and they are not even a Power 4 program? The committee was left with no choice but to include Clemson as a conference champ. I hate to admit it but Kiffin was probably correct in stating Ole Miss deserved a spot over us, same can even be said for USC (that's painful to type). Considering the ACCs two teams pretty much crapped the bed in the playoffs I can very much see the auto-bids for conference champs being discarded in the years to come. The Big10/SEC are the driving engine in college football, if they want to see auto-bids go away in an attempt to allow for my of their teams the it will be done. Heck, last year FSU was cast aside as a champion, granted that was a different system.

Clemson is in the ACC. Clemson won the ACC. So Clemson made the CFP.

Where they were seeded, what the committee thought of SMU, or Boise State's bye week had no bearing on the fact that Clemson is in the ACC, Clemson won the ACC, and Clemson therefore made the CFP.

100% correct. Is it not at least a little bit telling that as of tonight the ACC is 0-5 in bowl games (including a loss to Toledo)? 0-2 in the playoffs? Neither playoff game was competitive? The ACC is a joke. It stinks, but its true. The longer Clemson stays, the wider the gap will grow. Winning 10 games and a conference champ in this league was great when we could back it up by beating out of conference opponents. Let's face it, we played 3 P4 out of conference opponents and lost all 3. Most of our wins were against inferior teams. Our record was inflated by playing a weak schedule. The fact that we lost to every good team we played except another ACC foe (SMU) is proof of this. Kiffin is a turd, I dont like him, but the ACC hasn't exactly made his comments ring untrue.

But given the portal/bowl opt-outs, it's probably impossible now to determine whether the ACC's 0-5 bowl record is evidence that the ACC is worse than the MAC, for example, or just the natural consequence of reducing non-CFP bowl games to scrimmages.

Fair point, but as long as the ACC is a second rate financial league the results will keep coming in negatively. Pittsburgh, the team Clemson barely bear while they had a backup QB just lost to Toledo. I'd be lying if I said I knew how many transfers or opt-outs Pitt was dealing with. Still, losing to a non-power 4 team doesn't bode well. SMU and Clemson didn't exactly show out in the playoff, and as I type this GT is losing to Vandy. Point is, the ACC is a mess.

I am with you, A1ASauce. Certainly didn’t like the outcomes of four games, thought we had real weaknesses visible in some of our wins, too. This team never gave up and kept fighting.

I expect Coach Swinney will make some staff changes, but I am going to support him, the team, and the University 110% no matter what the future brings. Go Tigers!

I think the problem lies with this logic. Being critical of the direction and season does not equate to not supporting the team. Quite the opposite in fact. If we want Clemson to be elite, and expect them to be elite, then being happy with Medicare results will not return us to elite status. Clemson arguably finished as the 12th best team in college football this season. By any measure 12th is a good, not great season. We have not been elite in over 4 seasons.

How many season in a row in your mind before it becomes a trend? I think based on this years recruiting effort the last 4 years are impacting more than just results on the field. I don't want Dabo gone...unless he continues on this path. The ugly truth is Clemson can't compete with elite teams as it currently stands. These results are playing out on the field.

Yes we can talk about history all day long, but most recruits don't remember those times as they were in middle school when we were dominating. If you look at just this decade alone (Jan '20-Dec '24) We are 2-7 vs the SEC and 0-1 against the B1G. Overall we are 2-8 vs what is considered the premier conferences in CFB today. Changes need to be made on the Defensive side of the ball and even some on the offensive side of the ball. One thing has been going up, our coaches pay, meanwhile the results have been going down. Something needs to change.

I haven't done enough research to say coaching salaries are only going up at Clemson. I think probably it's more accurate to say elite coaches are commanding more and more money in general.

I can agree that I'd like to see Clemson back in the national championship and am grateful they came so close to being there again this year.

That doesn’t matter much now.

This decade, Dabo is 3-6 against the SEC. That would be in the bottom half of the conference for sure.

But if you want to reminisce on previous history while ignoring the current reality, go ahead.

Best means finishing in first. The 'Best' team is the one who wins it all, period. Nobody would argue 'Best' means finishing in the Top 15 with 4 losses. If the 'Best' Clemson can strive for is 4 loss seasons and a 12 out of 12 seed in the playoffs then we no longer need to pay a 'Best is the Standard' salary level or contribute to Clemson athletics.

Agree. It takes a unique coach to keep Clemson competitive(Howard Ford Sweeney). They don’t come along often says this 77 year old that has been following the tigers since age 10 before Jim Phillips came along and before we had upper decks or a west end zone except in it a high school score board. Trust Dabo and support him as you don’t want to wander in the wilderness hoping to be bowl eligible every year. I’ve been there done that. Give Dabo time to figure out this Wild West show and to learn from his own mistakes he has made. Think of all the top college teams that did not play in a conference championship game or even taste the playoffs. BE HAPPY DONT WORRY🙋‍♂️😁
