I knew Dr. Middlecoff pretty well when I was doing some work in Memphis ..... had lunch with him a number of times. I always liked him a lot. Once he was not capable of playing golf like he used to, he just quit. I never saw him pick up a club in his later years.

the takes from Johnny Miller, and following him, Nick Faldo. And David Feherty was great, on golf, as well as on conquering the personal demons of life. Look up the Feherty episode with Tom Watson sometime, David gives Watson a lot of credit for literally saving his life. Prior to watching that, I did not know that Watson had had his own struggles with the bottle.

I wanted to say Enberg but tnet won't let me type his first name. Yet they can run a sporting good chain's ads.

Roger Maltbie. I was a walking scorer at the Honda Classic for a few years around 1999-2002. I remember the first time I was walking down the fairway with a group of golfers and this guy walks up next to me and asks “how many fairways has Payne hit today?” I told him and heard him immediately say “Payne has hit 8 out of 12 fairways today”. I turned to look at realized it was Roger Maltbie and he was doing the TV broadcast. I’m thinking well, now I know how that works. This was prior to Shotlink and all the stats were kept manually by the walking scorers.

Agree on Chamblee. I tried to start a movement to get him off of GC but no luck. He is a cocky, rambling, little s - - t.

network just threw at golf as a sideline. The best golf commentators were the ones who made that sport their main focus. Jim Nance is somewhat in that same category, although he was always paired with one of the greats.

I always thought Judy Rankin was really good, as well. But, most dismissed her because she was a woman commenting on men's golf. She had the pedigree to comment on ANY form of golf she wanted.
