For those who may be disappointed that we "missed" on Shaw,

think about it like this: We probably get a higher percentage of players we really, really target than any other program. Am I wrong about that? I don't know how to tell exactly, but from what I've read, most schools make tons of offers and get tons of rejections, while Clemson is much more selective from the get-go. We have never, ever gotten all of the recruits we've gone after, and we never will, which means we miss on some big recruits every year. When you look at the tremendous overall success of our recruiting under Dabo, and the undeniable success of the program, what with playoffs and titles and championships, you realize that those "misses" are not failures by any means, but are just part of the process of building and sustaining one of the most iconic, succesful college football programs of the last 20 years.

We are stacked at DT, so I am all good with it. That said, hopefully we land a good one next class.

We definitely have to in order to maintain a dominant DLine. Don’t want to go through the gap in talent like we did post Dlaw, Wilkins and Huggins. Once Bresee leaves we’ll still have a good DT group but won’t have as much depth if we don’t bring in a couple good ones in the 23 class.

good perspective. still never like losing one to a school where football interest is casual. Probably we still sell more season tix than they have seats in their stadium.

It's a little easier when they commit to their home state. Half of those probably do so to stay in close proximity to family and other loved ones.

why when at UNC their family is likely over at a basketball scrimmage with most all the other fans rather than the football game when both are going on.

I was once purchasing an extra football ticket from someone who said they were a Clemson grad.
He said he wanted to meet me at the "clock tower" once we got on campus.
I told him I had found a ticket elsewhere.

wonder if NIL played into the decision... gotta give credit to Mack Brown, he is building NC piece by piece... I suspect we will see them in Dec.

While I might be able to agree with you on the probably of Clemson getting a higher percentage of players than any other program, I think maybe you are missing the bigger picture. It is just my opinion, but if a player picks another school, then that tells me he is not fully "ALL-IN" and if he is not then why would we want him? I would rather take a promising 3 or 4 star player who wants to play for Clemson than most any 5 star recruit who is just doing lip service by taking a visit.

That's the very reason we don't offer every top 250 player - we only offer players we feel are the right fit for Clemson.

Betcha Swinney and Venables consider missing on Shaw a major failure. He might turn out to be a once-in-a-lifetime recruit. Worse, it tacks on another star on Mack Brown's recruiting ability. He has UNC on a roll, recruiting 2 and 3 deep and we need to be seriously concerned about the ACC title game.

It’s possible that we meet Clemson in the ACC championship this year. I think more likely we are still a year away. But considering how much we sucked 3 years ago it’s amazing how fast Mack is building.

I really like Mac He is as much like Dabo as any coach out there I do see N Carolina on the rise in football Mac was one of the few that was willing to help Dabo when he was still at Texas I wished we could have gotten Shaw NC and Miami seem to be on the rise in the coastal and most think NC will win the coastal due to Howell

Yeah Howell is really good. We lost a lot at running back and receiver so those areas are question marks. Defense should be strong. As for Mack and Dabo, yes, they are legitimately good friends. Lots of mutual respect there.

they face several times every year and from which they quickly move on? Sure. Again, we "miss" on multiple big time players every year; most of them just happen earlier on in the process so we haven't always invested quite as much time and effort, and you don't have threads about them on Tigernet, but even that happens pretty consistently. And it happens even more to other schools. A lot of schools offer everybody in the top 100 or 250 or whatever, but only wind up signing 5 or 10 of those; now that's MASSIVE failure, if you want to look at it that way.

It's true, you can't win them all in recruiting . But, I'm trying to remember the last time that we signed a basketball player that they wanted as badly as we wanted Shaw.....can't come up with one. It ticks me off....I really dislike that school.

As good as our recruiting classes have been and as impressive as the way we recruit, what I think is the most impressive aspect of Clemson coaching is their ability to develop!
I'd choose a walk-on, who's worked and earned his way into the rotation over a 5-star primadonna with all the natural talent in the world!
Seems to me, this is the way Dabo and crew operate.

The big reason this hurts is because there aren't many 5 star D lineman out there.

I understand that - you're missing the point. There are always a very limited number of 5-star players at every position, every year. There are never very many to go around. We always go after a few pretty hard, and in recent years we've reeled in a pretty good percentage compared to our competition. Even still, we still fail to sign a some of the ones we start out recruiting every year. It's just the nature of the business, and in spite of it we are consistently a championship contender. This year, with Shaw, is no different. I'm sure our coaches really wanted Shaw, and they are disappointed that he committed to UNC instead, but they have a team to coach and a season about to start, so I can promise you they have already moved on and Clemson football will continue to prosper without Shaw.

Just remember...we would not Have Trenton Simpson if J. Flowe did not decide to go elsewhere. The staff manages to find guys to fill the spots even if they are #2 on the offer board.
