Because “the media” isn’t in the business of providing news. All they provide is opinion. And curate what information you are exposed to and presented in a certain manner to affect public opinion. And also to bury information that the powers that be don’t want you to know.

It’s given rise to the political pundit and it’s created an environment in which controversy means ratings.
There is still “news” to be had on TV, but the punditocracy has become the real driver of ratings and the true power at all the networks.
Today, the straight news from Ukraine was being delivered in much the same way by CNN and Fox.
Tonight, I’m sure Don Lemon and Tucker Carlson will give us their own unique twist.

it to qualify as “news”, it cannot be slanted nor biased.
If it’s a lie, then it is not the “news”.
My hope is that as long as the coverage appears to be telling us a similar story on both networks, perhaps it is the truth and maybe it really is “news” and not propaganda.
This is just me sitting here dreaming.

Unanimity of news coverage is what's found in totalitarian states.
The worry is that Fox is trying to move in CNN's direction.
Varying opinions, freely expressed and challenged via rational (not emotional) arguments, is the foundation of a free society.

That is what totalitarian states do.
Reporting the news truthfully without bias is what should happen on every media outlet.
Opinion is quite another matter. Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

DueWest, the first step in fixing a problem is to identify the problem.
The problem is that too many people have embraced virtue signaling instead of geopolitical and economic understanding (BTW, that means an understanding outside of Western Europe). These people express their virtuous outrage at entities which won't hurt them (e.g., Antifa protesters in USA cities who wouldn't whisper a word of dissent if they were faced with real tyranny) are among America's big problems.
The (almost entirely) corrupt TV news media and (largely) corrupt print / on-line major media outlets do not call out this hypocritical more-than-bratty adolescent Antifa behavior ... which by its silence (and worse, sometimes lauding coverage) only enables & encourages more such behavior.
The problem must be recognized, called out, and fixed before any 'public unity' can be achieved.

Is that after this comes to a conclusion the folks who dwell on the far left and far right of the spectrum understand that our enemies are Putin, Xi and Un; not the person on the other side of the aisle. Pelosi, McConnell, Schumer, and Rubio are not our enemies they are political opponents who are still Americans. There’s a huge difference between that and an enemy of America like we’re seeing this week in Russia. The cable tabloid “news” programs are selling outrage and division to make the almighty ad dollar. All that really matters is ratings; so you’ll find a program to tell you exactly what you want to hear, and call the other side liars, irrespective of whether you are liberal or conservative.
