It was a depiction of the feast of Dionysus which is in France not the Lord’s supper which is in Italy. Secondly, davinci’s depiction should outrage you as much seeing that it is not part of the biblical canon in anyway, and it breaks the second commandment AND is historically and ethnically inaccurate. I am an ordained pastor in one of the most conservative denominations in our country so I am not some LIBERAL out there. I just don’t want us to look stupid, and be paranoid that everyone is out to attack our faith when they are not even thinking about us. We get upset about all the wrong things. How many times did Jesus attack what pagans were doing wrongly vs what the religious were doing in their self righteous controls and attacks? Think yall!!!! You might not agree with the lifestyle of the folks who did the live installation but we have no grounds to be angry over a depiction. And you missed a great Olympics for nothing.

The opening ceremonies aren’t why I didn’t watch the Olympics, I haven’t really watched them since 2012 because I find them boring.
The claim of the depiction not being The Last Supper simply doesn’t stand up. It only came later after the initial blowback from the Catholic Church in France. The performers did claim it to be a depiction of the “new gay testament,” and organizers apologized. Saying it was a pagan depiction was only deflection after the fact.

Omit facts to continue to push some narrative. The offended are only finding happiness with being offended.
The artisic director for the event…..like the top person. He said in no uncertain terms exactly his intent amd it had ZERO to do with christianity or the last supper.
Now we just think he’s lying anout it? Good grief.

"Now we just think he’s lying anout it?"
There are precedents, especially when the heat is on.
You may be right. The facts of the actual performance don't seem to fit your narrative, so you may also be remarkably naive. Gaslighting is a real thing.
BTW, I'm a follower of Jesus and the opening ceremonies didn't bother me a bit. They were exactly what I would expect from France. I neither need, nor expect, them to cast my faith in a positive light. IT does not affect me, nor is God threatened, I'm quite certain. He can take care of Himself.
Voltaire, a Frenchman, claimed that the Bible would be done with away in his lifetime. Many years later the Geneva Bible Society used one of his homes as its headquarters.
God's sense of humor is pretty is good, and poignant.

Voltaire did say something to the effect that the Bible would be dead in 100 years, but
His house was never used as a headquarters for Geneva Bible Society. Another repeated story that turns into a sermon illustration. I heard this story first in the late 1980s but was not able to verify/refute it until the Internet age.
A Bible printer (possibly Geneva) used a building in Voltaire's hometown as a warehouse to store and ship printed Bibles. This building was formerly an inn, one in which Voltaire could have sat and had un café while contemplating the future, but there is no conclusive evidence that he ever entered the building.
I figured if we are going for accuracy, I might step in and correct this minor error.

Perverts hate Christians, due to the Bible, going back to Sodom and Gomorrah. Don’t try to explain it away as art. Join their psychosis and accept their perversion. Participate in their delusion that they are normal.
So, I just skipped watching the Olympic to avoid anymore NBC fantasies…..

Again, these two things do not go together. Modern progressive Christianity teaches another gospel that is blasphemous and antithetical to the Bible and the teachings of Christ.

Good post but why do you use the word “liberal” in a derogatory way?
The definitions of the word are:
1. willing to respect or accept behavior or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas. 2. relating to or denoting a political and social philosophy that promotes individual rights, civil liberties, democracy, and free enterprise.
Isn’t that what being an American is all about?

Trump was right about the fraud in elections
Aug 11, 2024, 6:07 PM
|
|
Did you read what you linked? Obviously not! The title was put there to provoke you into a lie!
Here is a quote from the article:
"“A Massive Fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution,” he wrote. “Our great ‘Founders’ did not want, and would not condone, False & Fraudulent Elections!”
So, he was saying that the fraud was a suspension of the Constitution, he was not calling for it.
As to your false assertion that Trump lied talking about the elections...Trump said before the election that among other states, Pennsylvania had changed their mail in ballots to make them easier to cheat, but no court in Pennsylvania would open an investigation or look at the evidence...here is one of many reports that you obviously never heard! This one is from Newsweek a stalwart of the lemming/liberal news... It says that 2 million votes in Pennsylvania were unconstitutional, and they did this in 2022! And they said that future votes like these would not be allowed! Here is a quote from the article:
"On Friday morning, a Pennsylvania state court struck down the state's 2019 law that expanded mail-in voting. The ruling comes after former President Donald Trump and his allies have questioned the legitimacy of the election, filing numerous court cases. At one point, Trump claimed to have "massive proof" of voter fraud in the state.
According to the Pennsylvania Election Returns' website, Biden received 1,995,691 mail-in votes to Trump's 595,538. Biden won the state and its 20 electoral votes with 50.1 percent of the vote to Trump's 48.84 percent."
So, Trump was right, and legally won the election in Pennsylvania!

No! Courts agree with me!
Aug 11, 2024, 9:26 PM

It was the Pennsylvania courts that decided Biden had almost 2 million mail in votes that were unconstitutional, and said that those votes will not be counted in the future. Obviously, you did not read the story. It was by Newsweek, so lemmings (people who believe the main stream media) should consider it true. It was dated January of 2022, one year after Biden took office. Biden won the state by around 80,000 votes, so Trump legally won the election.
This is one of the cases (2019 changes to mail in ballot counting by the Pennsylvania governor) That Trump was arguing against, trying to get a court to rule on it before the election, but no court would even hear the evidence. Thus, those unconstitutional votes counted. A year later, the Pennsylvania courts ruled correctly and said that they were unconstitutional.
So, yes, the Pennsylvania courts agree with me. Newsweek agrees with me. The federal Congress had nothing to do with it!
What you have to ask yourself...if Newsweek published this story in January of 2022, why are the lemming news still saying that Trump was off his rocker about the elections? Because almost every swing state with a democrat governor did the same thing or similar, that was done in Pennsylvania!

By Johnathan Dwayne of Puerto Rico 🇵🇷 For all those who suggest that those of us who protested the spectacle of the Olympics last Friday are not educated: Da Vinci's "The Last Supper" was finished in 1498. Van Bijlert's "Festin des Dieux" was painted in 1635, as a paganization of Da Vinci's already famous work, since that feast of Dionysus was usually illustrated in forests and fields, according to Greco-Latin literature, but as an act of rebellion to the numerous religious commissions, they took the image of the table, changed the appearance of the central figure to make it look like Christ and 'expanded' the concept of the Holy Supper to a pagan polytheistic one. This was done in countless works (e.g. Balen's Feast of the Gods and Jan 1615), all as a mockery, correction, substitution or even cancellation of biblical messages. I live from and I have been in the art world all my life (those from the Esc Luccetti or fellow Art students at the Universidad del Sagrado can confirm this fact). I am very educated in this field and have done fourteen exhibitions and participated in more than 25 collective exhibitions in and outside of PR (winner of the UNESCO prize, as outstanding painter, 1996). My favorite period was the Renaissance. Believe me, I know a little of what I am talking about. On the other hand, When one does or participates in a multitudinous and even global event, one makes sure that each idea is safe and will not provoke, unless that is the intention. My career as a singer is proof of this, as I have known how to create controversies over 40 years. This event was planned and planned for years, there are no accidents here. It is not that I know everything, but at least I know what I am talking about. They took biblical images, known to the world, and distorted them, as painters like Van Bijlert did, but this time, to then play the innocent. Dionysus? Sure, but at a table surrounded by several people in a very familiar pose. Horseman of the apocalypse? No, it's a Greek goddess, spirit of the Olympics and so on. I'm surprised they didn't use a manger with a baby and a woman next to it, saying later that it was Aphrodite and her son Cupid. Please. 😜 To those people, who suggested that we educate ourselves, let me return the suggest”

Top Paw, you speak truth. And the motivation is simple. The French hate Americans. They have for the last 75 years. They resent that we no longer have a debt of gratitude to the, for their assistance in the Revolutionary War. All that was paid in WWII. We had a contentious relationship in the 80’s. At one point, their President said he wanted all Americans out of France. Ronald Reagan called his bluff and asked if that included the remains of the 10,000 buried in Normandy. He quickly backed off his request. But their arrogance is unchanged. I’ve been blessed to travel the world. Yet one place I really want to see is Omaha Beach and the cemetery near there. But that item will remain unfulfilled. I’m not spending a penny with the French. So don’t “relieve” yourself in my back and try to convince me it’s raining. They intended that ceremony to be offensive to Christians because, as is the case with most of the rest of the world, they think most, if not all, Americans are Christians. Go Tigers!

The Olympic presentation was called 'La Cène Sur Un Scène Sur La Seine,' literally, 'The Last Supper on a Stage on the Seine,'”
Whatever, but if it is the feast of Dionysus, that in itself is a mockery of the last supper.
The Obese girl at the center of the presentation bragged about portraying The Christ in the ceremony.
Just stop this, there is an organized 'group','cabal', whatever you call them, who are rebelling against Christians, the right, and dare I say, White people.
Rest assured that this cabal has been measured, they have been weighed and soon will be removed from the face of the earth.
Oh you laugh, but remember what I've said here. Most have not awoken from the left/right paradigm. There are no Maga crazies or lefty loonies, we have been divided by race, sex and religion.
In the final battle we are one, I will be there by your side, for we fight not against principalities or against earthly powers but against the rulers of the darkness of this world!

It was just unnecessary and in my mind a deliberate attempt to #### people off. I did not watch the opening ceremony but very much enjoyed USA women's rugby, track, and the men's 1500.

In USA particularly since we are seeing so much sexually deviant behavior offered up and strongly promoted by this administration and even with some of their cabinet post appointees.
But Rev Brown I understand your point.
Just seemed like the French Olympic organizers were intentionally using this scene when they could have used so many other scenarios or images to a struggling world that is morally corrupt and/or so secular.

Don't really care what it was depiction of, a guy with his package hanging out had no place in the opening ceremony let alone next to some young girl.

What is your denomination? Just curious because the sheer number of people in all religions that have called that a depiction of the Last Supper is overwhelming. The producers of the show prior to the opening ceremony mentioned the Last Supper being used as an image. Were they lying, or did the director of the show just back pedal when the fire got too hot? Also if it was nothing, and I will take your word that it was because you are obviously smarter than everyone else, how can you pretend to be a Christian and support an event that celebrated the sinfulness of man in such an objectionable way. I mean for a Christian, which you claim to be? Seems like you need to recalibrate and instead of using your special knowledge as a stick to break others back with, you should use it to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ and call sinners to account and repentance instead of celebrating their sins with them. I mean since you are an ordained pastor of a very conservative denomination.

Secondly, "They are not even thinking about us". They think about Christians every single day because they are the most vocal critics of the sinfulness of man and there is no way they are going to let someone come between them and their sin because they love their sin too much. Jesus came to divide the sheep from the goats not unify them into one kingdom (Mt 13:49). Come out and be separate from them. We as Christians should remember that. I am sure you just misspoke being a pastor of a very conservative denomination.

Except in that passage Jesus says nothing about sin. He says the “sheep and goats” will be separated by how they treat the poor.
Maybe you should actually try reading the words of Jesus, instead of just going by the American evangelical version of Christianity.

I’m just going by what Jesus ACTUALLY SAID.
Not a modern Christian twist that you are putting on his words to suit your religion.
Also a lot of the things you call “sin” today Jesus never even dealt with.
To him it was the hypocrisy and self righteousness that you and other Christians in this thread are displaying.
The people you are attacking and judging are the very ones Jesus would have sat and broke bread with.

So, when Jesus was telling a parable, the words should be taken as exact? Of course not! You are wrong to try and use the words out of context for your purpose. He used everyday things to describe what Christians should do, those things should not be taken out of context, they apply to humans!
Jesus dealt with homosexuals, cross-dressers and many other sins, not only Himself, but by reaffirming what is in the Old Testament.
Jesus never called out people for pointing out sin...
Jesus sat/ate with all, you are correct, but all of them were told by Him what their sins were, and those who believed, corrected the sins. If they did not, Jesus did not associate with them.

Where in that particular passage does Jesus say he is using a parable?
You are the one taking Jesus out of context and making it fit your modern version of christianity.
There was no "christianity" when Jesus said these words, and he is recorded multiple times saying that salvation depends on how one loves his neighbor and cares for the poor.
Yes he called people to repent, because that is what a Jew was called to do. He also went to the temple himself and made sacrifices.

The Parable of the Net “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Your salvation depends solely on your acceptance of Jesus as your Christ and savior, it has nothing to do with how you treat people (although, it is assumed that good works will follow).
Nowhere does Jesus say He is using a parable. But, let's assume you are right...then you are saying that sheep and goats can sin? No? Then the passage makes no sense to be interpreted the way you say!
>>>31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. >>>
What do you think the phrase "separate the people one from another !!!as a shepherd separates!!! the sheep from the goats" means? The subject of the sentence is the people, and the "parable" to help explain it is the shepherd separating the sheep and the goats!!!
To say what you are saying is deliberately altering and misleading the context of what it says.
Are you honestly going to keep up the false pretense?

Yes I’m aware of what Christians claim.
Jesus never said that though. He repeatedly said to keep the commandments.
His followers turned him into a savior and created the idea of atonement for sins.
Jews did not and do that believe that about the messiah.
If you want to discuss the actual facts come on over the the religion and philosophy board.

Faith, not works

So, Jesus never said...the only way to God is through me? What about John 3:16 (no works mentioned there). And of course, if you look at Romans Chapter four, Even Abraham did not get salvation through works! I don't think any normal human could measure up to what Abraham did for works, but it clearly says Abraham was saved by his faith, not works! FAITH is the acceptance of Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

All Jesus said in John 3:16 was to believe in him, didn’t say what exactly. Technically Muslims believe he is the Jewish messiah. Do they get to go to heaven?
But that would seem to contradict other passages where Jesus says you must keep the commandments and take care of the poor to inherit eternal life.
Romans is someone’s interpretation, not the actual words of Jesus.

Let's make this simple, if you do not believe in the New testament, say so!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Self explanatory...belief in Jesus being one of the Trinity, or God on Earth...
Muslims do not believe Jesus was "the" Messiah...The "only Son", thus they will not be saved.
Jesus spent a lot of time telling everyone what a good "Christian" should live like...but none of that was needed for salvation...but good works were expected! Thus, Jesus expected those who inherit eternal life would have good works. Your case falls completely apart when you look a the person who heard about Jesus while dying...truly accepted Him, and is saved...no good works!
Of course, what you type here is not the actual words from you, but the depiction of what you are saying...you know, like God telling the writers of the New Testament what to say, just like He did for the Old Testament.

Once again I’m just going by what Jesus actually said. He never mentions sin or what somebody does or doesn’t believe.
He says the sheep and goats will be separated based on what they do for the poor. Period. That’s what he says.
If you want to add to it and put your modern Christian spin on it fine. I’m just showing you what Jesus actually said.

OK, then please copy onto this forum what your Bible version says about that passage. Include Matthew verses 31 to 41. Why? Because it goes on to say that the people on the right (termed sheep) shall inherit the kingdom (heaven), while the people on the left (termed goats) shall burn in everlasting fire!
So, you are saying that God will not judge people, just send sheep to heaven and goats to hell!!!
Look back at verse 32, again. It clearly states either the nations or people (depending on the version) will be separated like a shepherd separates sheep and goats...then it continues talking about the people by using the parable of goats and sheep.
You can't honestly think that only goats will go to hell, and only sheep will go to heaven!
As to never mentioning sin...what do you think is the reason for separating the people? For those who will go to heaven or hell. While faith is the supreme condition for going to heaven, I can guarantee you (other than death bed confessions) that the ones going to hell will have sinned a lot more than those going to heaven.
Then you say: "He says the sheep and goats will be separated based on what they do for the poor. Period. That’s what he says."
What? Please tell me what sheep do for the poor in relation to the followup verses....yeah, nice try, but even you do not believe that!

I'm not even sure what you are arguing at this point.
My original response was simply to say that in the goats and sheep passage, sin or faith is never mentioned. People are separated based on how they treated people.
You are interpreting the passage based on what you already believe, not based on what it actually says.
"Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’"

Nice try, you erased your earlier post where you said He was talking about sheep and goats, not people...! Here is one of your quotes:
"Except in that passage Jesus says nothing about sin. He says the “sheep and goats” will be separated by how they treat the poor."
The overriding principle is that if you believe in Christ as the Son of God, and accept Him into your heart, you are saved. It does not matter what or how many "works" you have. But, since those who have accepted Christ have the Holy Spirit residing in them, they will have good works, and in this passage, they will be the sheep. No matter how many good works those who do not accept Christ have, they will be the goats. That is what the fourth chapter of Romans says about Abraham.

That is your religious belief. Jesus never said that though. That idea came later and not directly from him.
Also, once again, Romans is a letter by someone who never personally met Jesus and was edited. You are not reading the original copies of these books so we really do not know what Jesus actually said or meant.

1) Jesus did deal with homosexuality in Mt 19: 4-6 when he describes marriage as between a man and a woman.
2) Jesus did not deal with child molesters, rapists, or pornography either. Are those to be accepted because they aren't mentioned by name as being Biblically approved through silence? Or do you think all of that is summed up simply as "sin"?
3) Hypocrisy is dealt with specifically in Mt 7: 1-5. I can tell you that homosexuality is wrong and not be a hypocrite because I am not a homosexual.
4) I can judge those who practice those things as we are called to do in Mt 18: 15-20
You would do well to ignore the bargain basement preaching you subscribe to and actually read what you claim to know inside out. I refuted all your bogus claims in one book of the Bible. Repent the time is at hand and your soul is in the balance.

And there it is. When people love their sin more than the word of God, they name call and attack the messenger. Reminds me of someone.
John 15 18-25 “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you: A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not have been guilty of sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done among them the works that no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin, but now they have seen and hated both me and my Father. But the word that is written in their Law must be fulfilled: They hated me without a cause.’

The Dionysus excuse,........and that is exactly what is is an excuse...doesnt hold water...i notice no one that had anything to do with the actual skit ever claimed it to be equated with the Dionysus feast.
From what i can tell it's a bunch of anti christian apologist or people wanting to appear to be clever by trying to alert "Dumb christians" that the dionysus feast even existed and they there are just making it up in there minds that they are being mocked and discriminated against in there own countries.
https://x.com/CollinRugg/status/1821169375350813005 you can click on that link, i think that will put to bed if it was just a misunderstanding in the feast/supper skit.
Also, i never assumed France to be a christian country anyway, they can do whatever they want, including mocking christ/christianity......and they certainly did. France is more known as the home of scottish right freemasonry, they sent us the statue of ISIS aka Libertus, and it sat in philadelphia for quite awhile because no one really wanted it.
There are certainly alot of good people in france, both christian and other, but in directly speaking to the cabal that runs france it is purely masonic. Remember as you watch the closing ceremony there are 6 million bodies buried underneath the city known as the paris catacombs, very dark history.
Also I'm sure it's just happenstance that the 33rd Olympiads were held at the head location of scottish freemasonry.

Putting aside the Last Supper part of this why in the world do we need the Olympics to try to preach to us about diversity and all that stuff? Just celebrate competition. Oh and virtually no one in the typical viewing audience in any country knows who Dionysus even is or was. Just play some music and dance and let the games begin. And let men compete against men and women against women.

Because “diversity”, “climate change”, “inclusion” and “social justice” are now the sacred pillars of the religion of the west, and its leaders worship fervently and zealously. But in the new religion there’s no redemption, only elevated levels of righteous works and indulgences required.
The worship of a Christ led to the Cathedral of Notre Dame and the country of France. We will see what the new religion leads to.

I think the main focus that it depicted Christ at all, which to some, mainly Presbyterian, is a 2CV (2 commandment violation). This would extend past art, but plays, statues, movies, shows (The Chosen primarily), etc.
I think it’s a stretch of what the 2 commandment is actually instructing, which is to not depict things that cannot be depicted (such as the Holy Spirit or the Father). But Christ took on human flesh, and there are quite a few other fleshly looking humans on this planet, so I have no qualms with depictions of Christ, much like you.

triggered are going to find it, and no amount of evidence or reason is going to deny them that right. They've worked too hard for it.

Can you expand on the “evidence and reason” they should not be outraged? They didn’t have to look for this; it came into their living rooms and slapped them in the face.
It was absolutely designed to poke Christianity in the eye. How dare they get riled about it!
Seriously?

There is no point in me expanding on it.

Just go ahead and enjoy your outrage. I wouldn't want to ruin that for you with the facts, which you already know, but I assume have chosen not to believe so you can wallow in your victimhood.

Nice unhinged non-response. You didn’t expand on anything you had said earlier.

of expanding on his comments will just be met with more outraged rebuttals. It's an endless cycle and your type is fully understood.

I thought art was about interpretation.
Billions of people saw it differently than what it was ‘supposed’ to represent.
If you can’t see it as a depiction of the last supper, fine. But don’t tell I’m wrong on how I interpret it.

Lol , Not! Gas lighting is a wacked out woke Marxist thing....Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!

"I am an ordained pastor in one of the most conservative denominations in our country so I am not some LIBERAL out there."
I don't believe you, based on the fruit that you have produced on here. Which denomination is that? That is one of the most conservative denominations in our country?

But, I saw it multiple times on social media.
However, I did see the menage au trois in the library scene of the Opening Ceremonies. And, the shredded garbage bag draped vertical pianist and the Golden Fly in the Closing Ceremonies.

Hope you enjoyed that satanic bs. I didn't watch one second of any of it. I had much better things to do like nothing.

The Olympic committee issued an apology after the firestorm. They knew exactly what they were doing. The apology was an admission of guilt.

If anything in the opening ceremony upsets someone, it's time for that person to grow up.
"Oh, no, someone mocked my religion. Boo hoo."
Change. The. Channel. It's French people. Lower your expectations.
