Per Morgan Thomas, we currently sit at 83 scholarships. I had also read (Hood I believe) we were still looking in the portal for an OL and maybe a DE IIRC. Given the success we are having with the 2025 class, wondering if we might save the ships for the next class? It might depend on who we see in the portal and if they have interest. Will be interesting to see how it plays out

Thanks for sharing… but you do know you just empowered the portal lovers to start all their educated whining on how we will never win unless we use the portal, and that there is now no excuse because we have room…..

.... not shocked but surprised, if Dabo doesn't sign 1 or 2 guys from the May portal. He has made the comment in the past that you really don't know what your roster is until after Spring. Paraphrased - "We could have somebody leave after Spring Practice. The only place you can get a replacement is form the portal."

He’s assuming Tyson classifies as a GA, Pearman as a walkon, and Bryn Tucker retiring from football.

and we have qb injuries and he becomes a “player” you would be required to have an opening which you can’t create mid semester so you either count him in the 85 or you don’t but you’ll be at 84 because you’d need the spot for emergency situation. Now if we decide to roll with just the 3 - only 2 scholly guys and not be able to play him then we could sign 1 but that seems awful risky at QB. Caspersen - the LS is always on scholly whether it’s him again or he gets beat out.

Tyson is going to be a GA and doesn't have to have a scholarship. He can be brought back as a Walk On.

All scholarship recruited athletes count against the 85

It doesn’t matter how you pay for them. They count. He was would have been a recruited athlete coming out of HS. At that point, even if the school is no longer providing aid they count vs the 85. This has been in place forever. It’s to prevent schools from offering “academic” scholarships in the old days and now also “NIL paid” walkon spots to get around the 85 limit.

Tyson probably could come off GA academic scholarship into walkon status but doubt that’s how Dabo would handle it, so I’ve been assuming he will take a scholarship atleast for fall semester.
