I am attending a work conference and of course I end up at lunch with a guy who played ball at NCSt during the Doeren tenure.
To say they’re “confident” would be an understatement.
They’re CONVINCED their defense is better than ours in the trenches. They think their group doesn’t get the respect it deserves and that Clemson’s d line is overrated and “doesn’t really impress” them. That’s a quote. He said. Bresee was an exception but that when he’s not in, our guys are average.
I just ate my sandwich.

Its not that big of a deal lol other teams have fans who love their teams too and State’s defense has done what everyone thought they would. Relax.

Well, we did just give 45 points. 38 in regulation. I’m kind of not impressed yet either. Hopefully, things will come together this week.

They have 10 starters back on defense, however Sam Hartman put 45 on the board against them when they had 11 starters.?

We only have 8 sacks on a ton of passes and our DEs have only 2.5 sacks. Miles Murphy has been in Dabo's dog house.
We do seem a bit overrated on the DL so far this season.

Which means very little opportunity for sacks - not that hard to see if you watched our games. It’s a smart strategy that keeps your qb healthy and keeps you from negative plays that our teams then feast on by getting the other team in long situations. Tight and better coverage will be the only thing that could cause a shift in strategy by the opposition.

often not the case. Also, with GT, Furman and La Tech, our opposition hasn't been all that. Wake had plenty of time. We seemed to be slow playing the option and unable to get off blocks. At one point, the QB had 3 seconds to throw, before rolling out and throwing 6 seconds. After Saturday, Goodwin said that we were having trouble getting pressure, so he had to blitz. According to the stats, we blitzed Wake on 50% of their pass plays in attempt to get pressure, but he still had time to throw the ball down the field. They weren't short passes.

Lobbed out to let the receivers run under. WF also runs an O that intentionally freezes guys - mesh is a form of RPO. Expect state to incorporate the quick release strategy into their base O. It’s about being consistently under x time for the QB to get it off. Anything beyond becomes the abnormal.

He could be right?
NC State also puts a lot of DL into the NFL and our front hasn't done much this season compared to the past given the expected performance.
and a former (defensive?) college player is probably better at analyzing it than the average fan.

Our defensive front has underachieved and was said to be unstoppable. We have put very little pressure on any quarterback so far. We did not pressure Hartman and allowed them to throw deep as well as run the ball, something they haven’t done against anyone. I am a diehard Tiger, but I am a realist and know something about the game.

Hartman had the time to make a sammich while his receivers ran deep routes. Our D needs to step up and pressure their QB. I don’t think we’ve turned it up yet on D line.

Not sure why our defensive line could not blow up that tight formation,slow developing play by Wake Forest. Hartman would just step into a narrow pocket and make throws. He would not have been able to do it if our defensive tackles would have blown up the WF Oline. Also we were unable to blow up their slow developing run plays. I get it and I respect that the Wake Forest offensive line was senior and played well, but a superstar level first round draft pick level defensive line player should have blown that up. Whether outside edge rushing or inside bull rushing, we should have done better.

He obviously hasn't seen Ruke play lately or seen how Page is turning into a stud. Davis is as good as anyone when he's healthy (and he is now) and Williams is back. Things have mostly settled down after all the emotion and strain of the past couple weeks so just keep talking NC State, the beast is awakening.

Somewhat troubling hearing David Hood state today on WCCP that an NFL scout said last week that he thought when the D-Line was focused and playing, they were almost unstoppable. He said the problem was they rarely play at that level
Definitely not hard to tell the difference in this d-line and the 2016-2018 d-line

Our best Dlineman just lost his sister and I’m pretty sure the team flew up to the funeral. I’m glad they did that for their teammate. We also need to realize that our entire team got less reps and practice for WF than any team we have played this year. They had a lot going on (especially Bresee) that is bigger than football.
I promise our Defense will look different in this game.
