Fishing help needed..

Staying on Hartwell and just like last summer can’t catch anything. Well, my son and his friend can’t. I’m just the boat driver. I’ve put them in coves, by docks, along Issaqueena ### and still nothing. Any advice on bait, location, or anything else would be appreciated. Thanks.

in my experience, fresh water fish tend to go deeper in search of cooler water when it starts getting hot outside. So, let your crank bait fall to the bottom, reel it up 4 to 5 feet off the bottom, then let it fall back to the bottom again. Repeat this all the way back to the boat.

Talk to the other boats you see that are fishing and ask them what they are using
A lot of the boats have radar to locate the fish
Talk to local shops which sell the live bait and other lures to catch them
Normally it is best to get out there early or later in the day
Good luck
and remember fishing doesn't mean catching

get some live bait shad or blue back herring and go tie up under the bridge off i85 sc/ga line at night. Get a floating light to help draw the fish in.

This time of year when the temps are in the 90’s, you have to go to the ‘big water’. That is - down near Sadlers Creek State Park or Big Water Marina.

I'm assuming you're fishing for bass. Early morning and evening topwater fishing can be fun using either a frog (I use Live Target) or whopper ploppers. Buzz baits can be good, but they are more common and fish can get conditioned to them. Artificial worms and lizards types work well throughout the day. Boat docks, grass lines and changes in elevation are key places during the heat of the summer. Spinner baits and vibrating jigs are worth a try if nothing else is working.
You want to "match the hatch" when selecting lures/colors-the closer you get to what's in the lake, the better. Believe it or not, even though the heat of summer moves in quick, shallow water during the morning and evening can produce some nice catches. Find the thermocline during the hot period of the day and/or areas under heavy cover. Grass mats produce very nicely.
my family does nothing but bass fishing and we have a bassmaster classic winner and a major league fishing world champion amongst us.

One, like you, I couldn't catch anything, no matter what bait I used, or how I cast it.
Two, the people who COULD catch fish NEVER gave up their secrets, I think it must be some Secret Fishing Society thing.

Tell him to follow the striper guides at about 5:30 am. Many meet at near by marinas. I’ve never failed to catch 50+ pounds of combination all bass species and catfish using shiners with a sinker early and free floating a shiner after sun rise. Just drop straight off the boat with the weight until it hits bottom and retrieve one crank and wait it out. Just let the shiner swim without weight with minimal casting. Don’t want to shock the bait too bad

Take a ball bat or stick and beat the bottom of the boat. Drumming can work well. The strippers are conditioned to come to the noise

Get some minnows and bobbers, slip bobbers are easiest so you can fish a little deeper. Find some docks with brush around them, best indicator if you dont have electronics is docks that have rod holders because those people like to fish and typically have brush. Try to fish minnows 5-8' deep around brush on docks. You will catch some crappie, small bass, maybe white bass or catfish. Main lake docks will be better right now. This is a way to just get bites. Make sure you are not using like heavy mono, use 6-10lb test max

time and effort into getting better. The only time I've ever had fun fishing was as a teen at Clark's Hill. We'd tie up underneath that bridge between SC & GA late in the evening with a couple cases of beer. Had a car headlight rigged up on a piece of foam shining down in the water. Baitfish out the yazoo swarming around. At some point, the crappie would go nuts and hit everything. You couldn't pull em up and re-bait fast enough. We'd pack a cooler full and take em back for his dad to cook the next day. Good times.
But trolling all day in the hot sun hoping to get a hit? Nah, I'm good. I'll be in the cabin.

Ones trash is another’s treasure. I look forward to the trips where all the men in my family come. My Dad, brother, cousin, etc. I don’t have too many fishing trips left with Dad. He started the tradition and we get to carry it on. I could care less if we catch anything (we usually catch more than we want) because it’s all about spending time together with a beautiful backdrop. Fighting a monster striper is quite the reward as well. Hook a 20 pounder and the fight is unreal! Even a decent spot puts up a crazy fight for its size.

Use cut bait. Go to any landing and buy shad or herring. Cut into half finger size bait and fish on the bottom. You will catch catfish. Worms will catch smaller fish.

Cut them in half and put it on a 2/0 hook and cast it out on the bottom in a channel or under a bridge. Especially late evening/night. They will catch some type of catfish guaranteed. They might even get lucky and get a stripper or a bass on the cut bait though it’s late in the year for stripper unless you are down the lake. Just to the right of cherry crossing bridge is a drop off it’s a great spot. Also across from Oconee point is a shoal and drop off that produces good fish if you are around the Clemson/twin lakes area which sounds like you are. For bass using any type of fluke or crank bait that looks like a shad will work just fish it slow around drop offs or under cover.
