I was completely shocked by the outcome of that game. I remember being in a daze trying to realize if that had really happened or not. I was so stunned my tailgating buddies got ahead of me by two or three beers before I even got started! What a great memory!

Great story. As one of the "spotters" for Dale Gilbert the title pulled me in. I too remember my first trip to the press box and all the "famous " folks I was now rubbing shoulders with. Nothing compares to Saturday in The Valley! GO TIGERS! BEAT GEORGIA!

I was a freshman from out of state in the fall of '87. Learning my way around Clemson and trying to figure out this college life. The game was incredible. So loud. So much emotion. So good. (queue up the Better than Ezra"
Well done David.

I was there as a student in 1987, and will never forget the roar of the crowd after the safety. I am fired up for Saturday, hoping to relive the glory of the 1986 game in Athens. Go Tigers!

Great article! That story brings back so many memories

of my childhood. My grandfather used to take me to all the games growing up. He worked for the SCDOT and had employee passes to the games. We sat on the grassy section that used to be by the home locker room. I can remember standing above the Tigers as the walked into the locker room.
I was in 7th grade at that UGA. I remember that game vividly.
I am now 39 and still think about my grandfather and those fall Saturdays hanging with him on that small little piece of grass in the corner of the Valley. Not a care in the world about the quality of the seat. Just happy to be there with my grandpa.
Thanks for writing this, David.

Great article David ! Neighborhood war doesn't begin to describe it. It's more of a modern version of War Between the States with just 2 States fighting it out. We battle them between the hedges and at Death Valley. During the off season, we battle them for recruits. To bad Vince.Dooley ended the series. It would be a great matchup every year. Let's put the Dawg's back in the pound and GO TIGERS !!!!

I was at that game! I remember wearing my poncho's in the upper-deck south nosebleed section as a 9 year old. Even though I had been to probably 20 games by then, this is one of the first I truly remember. Donnell Woolford was my favorite player and I even had his jersey.
I actually watched this game last night along with the 86' game in their entireties. 86' was the last time we won in the Classic City. Let's 86 the doggies Saturday night. I'm jumping out of my skin in excitement. LET"S GO AND WIN!!!!

Brings back many memories I have tailgating with my family.
Listening to the 5th quarter on the way home, all the coaches and player interviews.
Great work as always!
Go Tigers! Beat the Dawgs!
