Just because Clemson has lost to South Carolina for the last five years, doesn't mean that Clemson can't beat South Carolina? Dabo is a more experienced head coach now, Clemson has coaching stability it hasn't had in years, South Carolina just graduated two of it's most successful players in their school history, and Dabo's dandy dozen recruiting class graduated.

We have lost the two most important games on the schedule the last two seasons TO top ten teams, we have beaten 3 top ten teams the last 2 seasons. How many wins did we have over top ten teams the previous decade before we hired Dabo?

Very happy to hear this news...details of the contract? Dabo is a great fit for Clemson. We took a chance on an unproven asst coach, and it has paid off very well. No national search, no consultants, no list of 20 possible candidates, just a gutsy decision that has worked out very well. The Clemson administration then deserves a lot of the credit.

He can tell recruits that he will be the coach through their entire career. I know a certain elderly coach in the middle of the state that can't say the same thing.

and little else other than that.
he beat us & won some games to the extent of 11 in the last 3 seasons...AS AN EXPERIENCED VETERAN HEAD COACH!
nothing more. nothing in his conference. nothing nationally important.
Dabo is a great face for our program & is/has been building it the right way. not NCAA controversy & all the crap following the old ball coot & his whinery.
Dabo has everything well in place & continuing the right path...and he will beat USuCk. that much is inevitable with the talent & recruiting we've succeeded at reaching.
program stability is key...plus our academic success doesn't hurt either!
Good Job Dabo! Well deserved & lead to some more & bigger future championships & destruction of the Slurrier era!!!

It is very, very incentive laden with no outrageous salaries involved. Also, the "buy-out" should be minimal on both sides.
Long term contracts are very dicey and have caused many a program to face severe ramifications if too many guarantees are provided. After the Bowden fiasco, let's hope we didn't just make the same mistake again.

he was a good coach & all, did improve Clemson & help get us moving upward & gain some relevance again... but he didn't seal the deal, other than costing Clemson a ton of money that would've been better if put back into the program. Dabo's done a DAAAAMN good job all around!
i bet if we wouldn't place soooo much emphasis alone on beating the coots, it would happen. he knows we need to, but i feel we need to reduce the pressure some so as not to choke our players & us from the bigger picture. loosen up some, we're doing big things...

I don't think it is healthy for our program (or any) to lock in coaches for long periods unless there is a reasonable exit strategy. 8 years is a LONG time and much can change.
I am fine with the concept of a long-term contract PROVIDED we are not locked into an agreement that ties our financial hands should a change need to be made.

I think 4 year contracts with annual one year extensions are necessary for recruiting. It gives the recruit confidence that contractually the coach should be there for them. I agree with you that any contract longer than that are dangerous waters.

are considered a coot if you don't toe the company line. Maybe the upset ones actually have a little more to be upset about than not beating SC, as if that isn't enough. How about getting 51 dropped on you in your house in what was called the biggest game in program history at the time? Dabo has done some great things, no doubt, but why eight years? No one else wants him.

you aren't just "toe-ing the line"... you're practically copying & pasting coot-logic!
hard-pressed to not believe you're a coot infiltrator. your rookie status & meter doesn't help either.
if "nobody" wanted Dabo, we wouldn't have to pay so much & lock him in. he's on the rise & will be a hot commodity, which is why we give him the chance to do all he can here & under stable circumstances. if he fails...he's gone! that's what buy-outs are for!

some bad things have happened with Dabo as Coach... but MORE things positive for the program in general have happened.
just make a list of pros & cons...then you'll see Dabo is doing a good job. with more time & experience, he'll do even better. there's no evidence to state otherwise, unless you want to be like a coot & harp only on their wins over us...lame.

There is no bigger Clemson fan than I am, I promise you that. I don't come to this site very much so I'm a coot? What was that you said about logic? I agree with foo fighter, why eight years? Keep it at four, and keep extending it. Seriously, other than seeing Dabo's name at the bottom of a list of names for the Tx job, where have you seen or heard Dabo's name mentioned with another job? Nowhere. I just don't want us stuck in another Bowden like deal, that we're still paying for. I like Dabo just fine these days, but it wasn't always that way. He's certainly made some mistakes but rarely has he made the same one twice. As long as he keeps the right people around him, coaches like Morris and BV, he'll be fine. However, eight years is still too long.

i'd say that, considering the predicament that we were left in post-T.Bowden, that our AD, Pres., & athletic board won't be so quick to put us in a bad position like that again where Clemson's money is "thrown away". 8 years just shows commitment & stability. can't wait to see the specifics of the agreement, but i doubt that there isn't some protection in there for both Dabo & the university...especially considering Dabo's amount of experience, etc...
hopefully Clemson has learned. "burn me once, shame on you! Burn me TWICE...?! Shame on ME!"
Go Tigers!!! get'er done Dabo!
