It is time for Fall Migration, saw one (female RedStart ?) but not quick enough to ID for sure.
This is about the slowest time of year for backyard birds as the woods are full of food they prefer.
Here is a quick count in the last hour today as Lynyrd Skynyrd plays on the porch before I crank up some football.

Hey, Tug. My wife and I have always enjoyed feeding birds and watching them. Recently, we just started using the Merlin Bird ID by Cornell Lab app. It is a free app and does an excellent job identifying birds by sound. You might like it if you haven’t tried it.

Fantastic app for identifying bird calls etc. I enjoy learning about all of the calls that I hear when working in the woods.

About time for the loons to head south. I talked to a girl at the Loon research center in the Adirindacks that says there's a large population on Jocassee from October to March. One of my favorite birds.

Once had a friend who played bird sounds as she worked at her computer.
In the field she could ID a bird by sound.
I been at it for decades and most of mine seem to mimic each other. Mine don't make one sound, but different sounds.

I ID by photo. I try to get a photo good enough to ID the bird. I have done that for 127 around my yard.
I can tell most of them on first glance, but some Fall Warblers need a photo for me to ID.
This is a very exciting time of year.
