I read that he had told someone, prior to this, that he was hearing voices and planned to do a mass shooting. Crazy and well trained in firearms with that rifle is a dangerous combo. I pray that they stop him soon. How did we end up with so many deranged people in the world???

he is believed to be in the Army Reserve, was reportedly committed to a mental health facility for two weeks over the summer, and recently reported mental health issues - including hearing voices and threatening to shoot up a National Guard base in Maine.
Seems there were plenty of warning signs on this guy that screamed "I need to be committed to a mental facility". Apparently we are incapable of doing that these days as opposed to many years ago when I was a kid.
At this point the man is a rabid beast and as such law enforcement or a self defending citizen must put him down. Don't arrest this beast - fill him full of holes, including one through his broke brain, and put him in the ground.

There are good people on both sides. On a serious note, I don't think there is any solution to the problem, but it seems maybe there are some things we can do to avoid some of them. As former law enforcement, what do you recommend?

But only one time in my life have I ever even gotten in a physical altercation w someone and they truly deserved it.
The people that do this type thing are mentally ill and unless we make it so they can’t have weapons then the other solution is more mental health funding. But someone has to want the help to get it, and most don’t.
