One secret many don't know is I was a Charlotte Cop for 30 years. It is OK to unfriend me now.
Cops then were very, very different from cops now. If you hate cops now, you would hate these guys a lot more as they had no back up or back off in them. These are the competent guys you want to show at your door if you call for help as they will always win the day. They fight as a team. Sadly cops are different now. Cops are still good, but different.
I have often been beaten, bitten, stabbed, shot at, etc, never lost a battle as guys like these were on the way to bail me out.
This comes to my mind as a photo of Baker 4 was posted online today. I was never in that fine unit, but might be in this photo. I often showed to share info and teach at role calls.
Any can see why the girls loved me as opposed to these thugs.

I think with all this technology it probably makes you a little different doing that job. Kind of like you are ###### if you do and ###### if you don’t kind of deal!
I believe they are underpaid!

$$ is important to all. In the day one could not support a family as a cop with out part time jobs. I was a long haired hippie running a Charlotte hangout when I joined. I married a girl I met there at 27 and joined cops for a steady check so we could buy enough Boone's Farm.
A couple years later we were blessed with a son who needed lots of medical help. I needed $$. Part times jobs were there to help us. I was blessed with around the clock work. Some days I would go from job to job and not make it home for a couple days. All I had to do, was make the monthly medical payments so he could get the best of care. I did that, and Calhoun got the best. Cops helped me do that and also some doctors who never backed away.

partner and there were about 5 young black kids from 2 years old to about 10 or 12 years old. The kids were being very antagonistic to the officer and the 2 year old ran up and punched the officer. He did this several times. And he was yelling," blah, blah,blah...Bi%ch" over and over. It was a sad sight to see. Two years old and already he has been taught to hate policemen. Sad.

I'm from Charlotte as well. I'm guessing you know of Chief Sam Killman. His son, Sam Jr. and I were HS classmates.

One night I pulled over a rich drunk in a high end convertible. He told me to stop what I was about. He said if you know Killman, call him before you do anything or things will not go well. I told him I did know Sam. Then I towed his car and locked him up. Cops were different then.

His family lived within walking distance of my house and, like I said, son Sam, (who was actually the IV as his dad was Sam Kilman III), and I were good friends along with his younger sister Sharon who was absolutely gorgeous. Sam IV was an excellent DE and played at App. St. At first I was a little intimidated around his dad but he was one of the nicest people I ever met.
I hear Sam IV had a son who is Sam V. The legacy continues...

My brother was a Greenville policeman for 30 years. Like you, he was always moonlighting somewhere. He knows all of the good things and warts with police departments. The good part is he had excellent medical insurance and now has a good retirement income. They are kind of like teachers in that department in that the money isn't great but the retirements benefits are excellent.

In Charlotte guys like you were drawn to the Bus Station after dark to prey on the riders and sell their booty. Greyhound hired me to come in at midnight (no cops wanted that tuff job, but it paid well and I needed money.) I would show in jeans to fit in and then attack the tyrannies, ######, and general thugs who were attacking the bus passengers. Soon all knew me. Too stay alive I would strike first. Help was minutes away but I had seconds. I was quickly violent or I would suffer.
Most thugs physically attack less than on TV shows. Normal people seldom put their hands on another to control them so it is strange to them. How many reading have put your hands on another in the last decade? I worked the ghettos everyday and did that most days. If one gave me hell at the bus station when I had no help and escaped, would find them the next day with my buddy Hawks. Reputation would add to keeping one safe. Most don't live like I did.

I have a million tales. On the bus station job one tale comes to mind with the good beer I have today. I have odd size feet 13 triple A heel. I had found a pair of Florsheim boots in a 2nd hand store. They were nice. On the first day with them at the bus station job got into a tussle with an #######.
We were rolling around on the sidewalk trying to kill each other. A city bus passing called for some one to help me. I needed help. Adam One guys arrived and hauled it off. Later I saw my new boots had the leather peeled off one toe. If I could have had that a ###### back on the scene --?? I would have ??

What you were or what you done way back then has no effect on my opinion what I feel about you as Clemson Tiger fan bc you seem to be a solid enough fan to me. I can't answer for anyone else, but I only care about your loyalty as a Tiger fan, furthermore, our society couldn't survive without law enforcement, and there is going to be the good and the bad in every form of employment. IMO you lasted 30 years at your previous employment, so you couldn't have been that bad at doing your job, Go Tigers!!!

Normal folks need protection from the strong. The weak pass laws and hire the strong to protect them.
Cops are there to do the bidding of voters and politicians.

Our good friend competed a ride-along training class. After she finished she went on several. She was amazed at the professionalism of all the cops she rode with. She said it's eye opening to see what cops have to deal with day in day out. They have to see the ugly underbelly of our society we mostly only see on the 11:00 news.
Mostly drug overdoses and domestic disputes, interrupted by violence. She said some drug users got narcan nearly daily, some more than once daily. The most moving moment was when an officer had to tell a mother her son died of a drug overdose. From the squad car she watched a veteran cop and a devastated mother hugging and crying together.
Yes, there are bad cops but the vast majority are who you want to show up when you call 911.

My Uncle was a Charlotte City Police Officer for over 30 years. You are very much appreciated. I was watching the news one while in college. I found my Uncle had been shot that day or the night before. I was shocked because the Charlotte PD has so many officers. He recovered and went back to work. He was shot around 83 or 84 I believe.
All of guys and ladies stay safe !
