Expert grill advice needed ~~

I am not an expert at cooking out. I have watched others do it.

Truth be told, I have never owned a grill -- until now, nor did my parents.
Cooking out seems like "less". If you have a kitchen, don't see the point.

I saw a Clemson Orange one (Coleman RoadTrip 285) and bought on impulse due to the great color.
https://www.amazon.com/Coleman-Adjustable-Instastart-Push-Button-Thermometer/dp/B07C8F2CS9/ref=sr_1_2?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.pkBcuDLAKyGDfUGd9RCXlN2qHLFijDTvhg1rA51YwxBIjFLMcSojsmEwM3sg6IQKXMCfqu4m99lc1Z-5r0MpOZ1602w_YjHsCQE_sZB12m4cJrsENRpC-hU-hUsEAoRIIFhOueBY6-drvofn9Q63htRhaA7rXtJ7_8YBF7dEiSnAgZo4hgakn1hAc7k84Pj7NeQpFWmNkHS9UQkFJUegSNMQdfM6a7iTgexUomPCy5c.LzyO2TwGC74BWhJ7C8L54mG47XwkCTqstpLbX4A0tSQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=Coleman%2BRoadtrip%2B285%2Borange&mfadid=adm&qid=1718926095&sr=8-2&th=1

-- Up to 20,000 BTUs of grilling power and 285 sq. In. of cooking area
-- 3 independently adjustable burners for enhanced temperature control
-- Removable water pan catches cooking grease for easy cleaning
-- 2 durable side tables for resting utensils and sauces; integrated thermometer for accurate temperature
-- Instastart Ignition for push-button, matchless lighting

I have no idea what all that is about. Start a fire and hang some food over it is all I know.
I am thinking on the 4th may try some "corn on the cob" and "veggie dogs".

Corn does very well on the grill. I shuck mine and place it in a foil pouch with butter and salt. Be sure and use heavy duty foil, double it and seal it well or the butter will leak out. Takes about 15-20 min on med heat.

As for your veggie dogs you will have to wing it. Never eaten or tried to cook. BTW you have all the grill you will ever need for your use. Just keep it clean of grease build up or you will have a nice flame up one day. Good luck.

The next time you grill corn, try cooking one ear before you shuck it. Cook for 20 to 25 minutes, then flip over to cook other side for 20 to 25 minutes, then shuck it. My favorite way to cook corn.

No shucking is the way I cook corn on the grill. I soak the whole ear in water until it's saturated. Shake the loose water off and let it steam inside the husk.

If you want expert advice on anything, you've come to the right place.

It looks like flare-ups won't be a problem with your grill since the cooking surface isn't open to the flame. Every man who grills develops his own methods and ways of doing things. I cook by sight, hate to cut into meat or insert a probe to measure temperature, but some men gotta do things like that to achieve success. A lot of men would shake their head at using something like liquid smoke, but that might be a good thing with your grill. Figure out the spices you like and keep them on hand. Montreal or Chicago seasonings are good and I like to hit each side with Cajon seasoning. My approach is to find the right temperature to achieve a total cook time of 20 minutes. Some men will say that's too long. I flip every 5 minutes. Some men say flip only once. It's usually good to start with the grill as hot as you can get it, hit each side for a minute, and cut the temperature back to finish cooking. If guests want different levels of doneness, stagger the start times so they're done at the same time.

My Dad said you don't practice on Thanksgiving. I think that applies to July 4 also. Good luck and find what works for you.

That looks a lot like the one I just bought.

I have used it three times - 2 times with chicken and one with steak. So far, nothing to write home about. Just be sure to keep it clean between each use, fill the water pan, use a cooking spray made with canola oil or one that handles the heat well. Season the meat well.

That’s not a grill. It’s a hot plate. You got hosed on the price. I bought the same grill for $199 and placed my own clemson stickers on it. I use it at tailgates to heat up sides. If I use a grill it’s usually charcoal or hardwood in a smoker. Grilling creates flavors a indoor kitchen cannot. If you’ve ever enjoyed delicious smoked pulled pork or brisket you will understand. Take the Smoking Pig. Almost every clemson Tiger has had a meal from the pig. That’s the flavor hardwood and charcoal smoking adds to meat. Cooking a brisket or pork shoulder in an oven or braising just isn’t the same. I’ll give you another example. Your “grill” is the equivalent of a tech 9. It’s a cheap knock off that isn’t going to win any awards. A smoker is like having a legendary generals 1911. The results are vastly different. The Tech9 May blow up in your hand and is very likely to jam. The 1911 is a precise machine that produces reliable results. Just as in shooting grilling is all about the operator. If buying prepacked pulled pork is ok to you, just keep buying that frozen crap. If you want life changing delicious food, learn the science behind grilling and smoking. It’s canned pork and beans Vs homemade baked beans from scratch. It’s all about what level food you want to consume. Not to mention the healthier aspects of smoking fish, chicken, and healthier cuts. It’s very subjective although most will choose the grilled or smoked option vs prepacked indoor cooking.

Never known a person that doesn't or hasn't owned a grill. That is almost sacrilegious. I wont even date a chick if she doesn't have a grill. I cook 90% of my meals on the grill. Tastes better and less mess.

"Cooking out seems like "less". If you have a kitchen, don't see the point."

Send it to me, I'll put it to good use. Veggie dog on July 4th??? I don't see the point....but if you must, don't be a Schumer and put the cheese on a raw burger (veggie or beef). J/K...seriously...
Once you start grilling out on a properly seasoned grill, and get it right, you'll want everything off the grill-it's that much better. Plus, you get to spend time with family/friends outside around the grill. I have an outdoor kitchen and 90% of our food comes off the grills/smokers. Get a smoker box too-smoked food is outrageously good.
Corn on the cob-either foil it or get a rack. Salt pepper with a little butter is all you'll need You can also grill it in the husk-pull the husk back, season and foil then grill for @ 20-30 mins.
burgers-preheat grill to anywhere from 350 to 400, oil/spray the grate and grill for 5-10 minutes each side depending on your heat, it doesn't take much with fake...I mean veggie burgers. Don't move them around if you want the classic char marks from the grate.
BRUSSEL SPROUTS ARE VERY GOOD OFF THE GRILL. Do as you would with corn.

I should mention with the corn, if you grill it in the husk-pull the husk back and remove silk. Then season and put the husk back up before foiling or racking. If you get big flare-ups you used too much better.

My advice is to not cook too hot too fast. Is an ear of corn on a hot dog bun a veggie dog?
