Expansion/alliance news

Jan 28, 2013, 12:29 PM

I don't know what to make of this, so the best thing to do is to wait and see what Swofford says. If he thinks it's a good idea, then I'll know it's a bad idea.

It's a great idea...

If it is effective in saving the ACC.

badge-donor-15yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I could care less if it saves the ACC

Jan 28, 2013, 12:33 PM

all I care about is whether or not it would benefit Clemson, which it probably would.

I just wonder if something like this would open us up for TV negotiations or if we'd have to wait until the current contracts expire in the year 3000

geographical stand point. Heck, the ACC just needs some current members to step up.

Not sure who the unmentioned conference is but the exploration of such by the Big 12 should prove to the "FSU/Clemson to the Big 12" crowd that the ACC is in far better shape than they won't to admit. The Big 12 is in fact, the conference whom is back on their heels and they know it.

want to admit...not won't***

and the UMD suit will determine the ACC's future

I know the SEC/Big 12 have their agreements and such...

Jan 28, 2013, 12:56 PM

but with the PAC 12 being mentioned/SEC's current love fest, seems to me the Big 10 is the more natural fit. Otherwise the Big 10 is almost completely screwed, imo.

However, the SEC is the conference that needs to be playing some quality OOC games to prove they really are the almighty SEC.

option for Clemson. After doing a little research, I think the Big 12 is as unstable as it was two years ago.

Without major defections from the ACC, they are left to the ECU's of the football landscape for additional schools. This latest "scoop" from the Big 12 Commissioner hinting of discussions with the ACC and other conferences about standing down on the "raiding" and working together seems to strenghten the opinion that the Big 12 is nervous.

IMO, they should be nervous.

IMO, the UMD suit has no impact on the ACC's future. Only UMD's account balance. The ACC currently has over 100M people in its member states. No other conference has as many people. If, as everyone keeps saying, it is not the quality of the teams being added to conferences its the people, then everybody should want to join the ACC.

It is the leadership in the ACC that is the problem....

Jan 28, 2013, 1:09 PM [ in reply to The ACC is in the best position for further expansion from a ]

Geographically speaking, the league is in a great position which is why other conferences keep looking at ACC schools for expansion purposes.

Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.

we will never be what we should be as a school or conf as long as swoffie is there!! if the ACC fires his dumb #### and hires a good comish ACC will be fine IF Fsu, Tech and VPI do not leave

What really needs to happen is that the old Division 1 needs to be re-established with the top 90 to 100 football schools included. Then the playoff concept would work because you would have 8 subdivision champions to make the playoffs based on performance on the field and not media hype.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think something like that will happen

Jan 28, 2013, 2:54 PM

but I doubt it'll be more than 75 teams.
